:PLOW ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 1., 1907.
- Application filed August 27, 1906. strain). 332,289.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE IVIEGERT, a cttizen of the United States, residing at Frelsburg, in the county of Colorado and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Plow Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sweep-plows and its object is to provide a device of this character the point or share of which can be quickly adjusted to any desired angle in relation to the runner disposed in rear thereof arlid without stopping the movement of the The invention consists of a runner, to which is secured one end of a plow-beam. The forward end of this runner has a stand ard pivoted to it, said standard carrying a share and having a rearwardly-extending arm at its upper end, to which is pivoted a link. This link is connected to an operating-lever arranged close to the handles of the plow and has means for securing. it in any position to which it may be adjusted.
The invention also consists of certain other novel features of construction and combinations of parts, which will be hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying rawing is shown a side elevation of the preferred form of the invention.
Referring to the drawing by characters of reference, 1 is a runner having a forwardlyeXtending ear 2 at its front end, to which is pivoted a standard 3, the pivot 4 of said standard being disposed between the ends thereof, so that a swinging or oscillatin movement of the lower end of said standard may be effected. A share 5 is suitably fastened to the standard, and an arm 6 extends rearwardly from and is rigidly secured to the upper portion of the standard. A plowbeam 7 is secured to the runner in rear of the ear 2 and may be of any preferred construction, and secured to this beamnear the handle, 8 is a rack 9, adapted to be engaged by a spring-pressed plunger 10, mounted on a lever 11, which is pivote to the beam 7. A link 12 connects this lever with the arm 6.
It will be understood that by manipulating the lever 11 the standard 3 may be adjusted to any desired angle in relation to the runner l and the plunger 10 will always lock the parts in adjusted position. As the lever 11 isclose to the handles 8 this adjustment can be effected without stopping the plow, and the share 5 can therefore be swung to any desired relation to the ground in order to meet various conditions during the plowing operation. The runner constitutes a firm support for the standard, and the pressure against the plow is received almost entirely by this runner, which serves to relieve the lever and the mechanism connected thereto of any undue pressure. This runner by extending forward from the lower end of the beam will practically prevent the beam 7 from tilting downward, and therefore the share 5 is maintained at all times practically at the same angle, to the surface of the ground, unless the same is shifted by means of the levers 11.
The preferred form of the invention has been set forth in the foregoing description;
but I do not limit myself thereto, as I am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit or sacrificing the advantages thereof, and I therefore reserve the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope of the claim.
What is claimed isa In a device of the character described the combination with a beam having a downturned end portion; of a runner secured to the lower end portion of the beam and extending forward therefrom, an ear upon the front end of the runner, a standard pivoted thereto, a share carried by the standard, and means upon the beam for swinging the standard upon the ear.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
V THEODORE WIEGERT. Witnesses:
