IMPROVEMENT IN STA'YS FOR COLLARS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern.:
Be it known that I, SIMON KAUFMAN, of Farbury, in the county of Livingston, and State of Illinois, have Vinvented a new and useful Improvement in Detachable Stays for Paper and Linen Collars; and Ido hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, land exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in and it consists in the' application of a detachable Hexible stay and fastening-bandto the collar, made of any suitable material, and constructed as hereinafter described.-
Figure l is a perspective View 'of a collar provided With my improved stay.
Figure 2 is a section of the same through the line :z: x.

A represents the collar.
B is the stay.
C is the interior band, by which the stay is fastened to the collar.
At the ends ofthe stay B there areobutton-hoies, d, of linen or other suitable material,l and the fasteningband G is attached thereto at the ends.
'The collar, being folded or doubled, as seen in the drawing, and as they are usually made, is secured to the stay, by the fastening-band C, which is enclosed with the fold, as seen',.wl1ile the stay itself forms the inner wearing-surface of the'collar.
The stay and the collar may be attached together by small rivets, as seen at e, if desired.
The stay Bfas well as the inner band C, may be made of metal of any kind, or of rubberV or wood, or of any other suitable material, and the stay may be covered with silk, linen, or other material, if desired.
' By this method of staying and fastening the collar, injury from perspiration is prevented, there are no button-holes to tear out, and the collar is consequently made durable. f*
To the inner side of the stayB there is a linen button-hole loop, j,.attached, for fastening the collar to the shirt-band at the back of the neck.
The stay and fastening-band yC, thus formed and secured together, may be used for any length of time, as the collar is attached or removed with the greatest facility.
I clailn as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The detachable inner stay or lining'B, and the narrow detachable band C, applied to the collar A as described and shown, for the purposes specied.
