IMPROVEMENT IN RAIN-WATER CUT-OFFS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the lame.
To all whom it 'may concern:
B e it known that we, JACOB VAN NORMAN and WILLrAu YOUNG, of Easton, in the county of Northampton, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvement-s in Rain-Tater Cut- Oii's; and We do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exaetdesoription thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and tothe letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, in which is represented a vertical section.
To enable others to make and use our invention, we will now describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawing', A represents the drum, supplied with the exit-pipes B B', and entrance-pipe C. Upon each side, within the drum, are the semieircular pieces Il, shaped as seen iu the drawing.
e is the out-oli', which should be soldered tightly and securely to the angular sides of pieces d d.
g represents an axlewhich has its bearings at the centre of each side of the drum, and is provided with the handle h, seen in dotted lines.
To the axle is soldered or secured the eut-oli" e.
We would here observe that one of the semicironlar pieces d should be stained a different color from the outside of the drum, and the same side of the drum should. be provided with two holes, it, so that the stained portion shall come opposite one of said holes, when the Valve is turned to its full extent, the objee-t of which is to ascertain at a glance in what position the eut-olf stands; for instance, if the water be out o" from pipe B, the fact will be indicated by the euteoii, through the holes Ii, and yvicea1-erste.
