i BURIAL-OASE.
novel features of 'the same, willy be morefully describedr hereinafter lThe invention consists of andparts and combinations which A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part'of this speciiication, in which similar characters of' reference ,indicate corigure 1 1s a longitudinalgsectional elevation of the improvement on the line I l of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a transverse section ofthe same on the line 2j 2 of Fig. 1. Fi 3 is aperspective view of one of the ldc'kmg-cleats for Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional side elevation of the interlocking flanges of the receptacle and coverin separate positions.
The receptacle A and the cover B are made of sheet metal stamped or otherwise roduced to render the receptacle A, `as Wel as the cover B, completely'seamless.
The receptacle .A is provided at its u per end with an outwardly-extended integra annular llange A', adapted to be engaged and interlocked by a similar integral flange B,
shown in Fig. 4, the flange -A is provided flange B is provided with a'depending portion B2, adapted tov engage the recessed portion A2, and the llange B terminates in an in# wardlyeextending' upturned hook B?, adapted t0 be engaged by the hook-C" of the cleat C, s
made of metal, and adapted to engage the hook VA3 of the ila-nge A', as plainly shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The recessed ortion A? of the flange A is adapted to be nl lbd with cementI B is placed in' position on the receptacle A and the portion-B2f engages .the portion A2 i Specification of Letters Patent. 'Application illd March 8,1906. Serial No. 304.933.
Patented Dec. 4., 1906.
- then a hermetical seal is formed between the interlocking llanges B and A by the interposition of the cement or a like material.
{It'is understood that before the flanges B A engage each other the cleat C is bent to en gage with its free end C2 the hook A3, so as to securely lock the flanges A and B together. In practice a desired number of cleats may used-that is, several cleats on each side andone or more cleats at each end.
The receptacle A is provided on its sides `with an suitable material, and a supplementary bottom F, of wood or under side of the interior lining E, of wood or other a like material, engages the bottom of the receptacle A, and the said'lining E and the bottom F are securely fastened in position in'receptacle A by bolts G, having hooks G engaging the lining E, as plainly shown-in Figs. 1 and 2 the bolts extending along the inner face ci the lining through apertures in the bottom of the receptacle A and then passing throu h the bottom F t o receive at the outer ends t e nuts G2, as will be readily understood by referencefto Figs. 1 l.and 2, and thus united great rigidity is secured.
The cover B is preferably provided at its top witl'r an opening Bt, adapted to be closed by a panelI-I, of glass or other suitable transe parent er translucent material, and the edges of the said panel H fit .into retainin f-anges B5, formed integrally on'the top of t e cover B and extending downwardly from the said 1 top, as plainl indicated inl Figs. 1 and 2., I The top ofy the cover B may also beprovided with a loop I, riveted or otherwise fastened in position and adapted to receive interchangeably suitable ornamentsor ein blematic designs of any desiredcharacter. The receptacle A, as well as the cover B', may .be suitablyornamented by embossing. or otherwise.
A burial-case constructed as shown and described maybe `very. cheaply manufac- -tured, is exceedingly durable, and hernfieticu to prevent the escape of noxious ally sealed or mephitic gases and germs of diseases. y having. the wood lining E it is evident that the interior decoration or upholstering :of the burial-casecan be readily attached, so
as to give` the desired appearance to the interior of the .burial-casse" Having thus described.l my inventi'eo, :I claim as new and Patent- 1. A burial-case comprising a metallic re# desireto secure by Letters ICO eeptaole having a flange, said flange being grooved throughout its length on its upper face for receiving a sealing substance and having its marginal edge bent downwardly and a @over 'for the receptacle, said cover being provided with a flange having a eontinu- -ous bead for itting in the groove ofthe receptaele and having `its marginal edge bent downwardly, inwardly andupwardly .to form a hook, and clamps provided with a hook for engaging the hook 'of the Cover and a hook for engaging the marginal edge of the receptaele.`
'2. Y burial-ease comprising a `seamless metalli@ receptacle having a flange, said vflange being grooved throughout its length taining the parte in their proper inwardly and upwardl to form a hook, and means engaging the hook' and the downwardly-bent edge of the receptacle for mainrelation.
3. A burial-oase eompnsing a metallic reeeptaele having a flange, the marginal edge of said flange being bentdownwardly, and a cover Jfor the receptacle, said cover having a lange, the marginal edge of which is bent downward, inward andupward to forma hook, and clamps provided with 'a hook `for engaging the hook of for engaging the marginal edge of the receptacle whereby to secure the parts together.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this speeiiication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. l
I EPHRAIM A. KNODLE.
