Specification of Letters atent.
Eatented Deo. 4, 1906.
Application filed May 29,1905. Serial No. 319.331
To n/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, VrLLrAM W'EsLnr Ginson, oi" the United States Army, a citizen ol theUnited States, and a resident oi' St. Peters burg, in the llinpire of Russia, have invented a n ew and useful linprovernent in Cartridge- Belts, oi" Whigh the iollowin g is a speei'liea tion.
The cartridge-belt in which niy irnprovev nient is embodied is one in which the belt proper is Combined with Woven-fabric pookets detaehably connected to the belt, being thus held to the belt by clip-like fasteners, which pass through eyelet-holes in the body iabrie of the pockets and are provided with `inner hook ends adapted to catch over the edge of the belt. lt is this feature which characterizes my invention.
in the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a iront view oi a portion of a belt embodying rny invention. Fig. il a view of the same looking at the inner face of the belt proper. Fig. 3 is a section on line 3 3, lEig. 1.
A is the belt proper or support ior -the cartridge-pockets. lt may be made oi any suitable material, preferably woven fabric.
The pockets, Which may be single or in groups, are lettered B. ln the present instance they are in groups oi two and are woven in one with a body fabricIv and with a cover C. They may be of any suitable dimensions; adapted to contain either loose cartridges or cartridges in clips, and may .in the latter event be provided with partitions to separate the s of cartridges from one another.
have illustrated but one group oi' pockets, the group belng of considerably greater Width than the belt to which 1t is applied. lt will be understood, however, that asl many groups may be applied to and associated vmth the belt as desired.
ln eaoh group of poeliets there are eyelets o in pairs in the body fabric at the opposite ends and also in the interval between the two pockets. Through these eyelets pass the Clip-fasteners l), provided with inner opposed hook ends which catch over the'opposite edges of the belt proper, A, and hold the group of pockets iirmly thereon, While at the saine time permitting the two to be readily detaohed and. separated from one another Whenever desired. Each clip consists of a pieee of stout vvire of suitable length having its opposite ends bent toward one another, as clearly indicated in Fig. 3. These clips not only detaehably and adjustably connect the belt and pockets, but they serve as stitieners or a stii'l'eningfrar1ie to yu'pholdin proper position the pouch or group ol" pockets and to prevent the same Jfrom sagging under the Weight oi the cartridges.
What l claim herein as new and of my own invention, and desire to vsecure by Letters Patent, is v A. cartridge-belt comprising a belt proper, Woven-fabric cartridge-pockets and clip-iasteners b which pass from the front through eyelets in the body fabric of the pockets and are provided with inner opposed hook ends which oatoh over the opposite edges of the belt proper, substantially as and for the puri poses hereinbefore set forth.
in testimony whereof l ailiX niy signature in presence of tvvo Witnesses.
