Be it known that I, REUBEN E. KUTER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Hinckley, in the county of Dekalb and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Mucilage-Bottles, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in mucilage-bottles, the object of the invention being to provide a simple construction of bottlewherein provision is made to secure a complete closure of the mouth of the bottle when the brush is inserted therein and before the bottle is initially opened for use, to prevent evaporation and thickening of the mucilage, the access of dust and dirt thereto, and'gumming and sticking of the brush to the neck of the bottle.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical section of a bottle embodying my invention, showing the brush as normally supported for use. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the bottle sealed for storage or transportation and before it is initially opened for the application of the brush.

The bottle-body 1 may be of any preferred form, and is provided with an upwardly-extending neck 2, externally threaded for the reception of an internally-threaded closure- .oap 8, having an upwardly-extending internally and externally threaded tubular stem or nipple 4. The cap 3 is designed to snugly engage the neck and to be retained thereon by the screw-threaded connection, and is formed to receive a sealing-disk 5, adapted to be clamped between the top of the cap and rim edge of the neck to form a close joint to prevent the access of dirt and dust to the interior of'the bottle and evaporation of the contents thereof.

The brush 6 is provided with a handle or stem 7, which is externally threaded to fit within the internally threaded nipple 4, whereby the brush is adjustably connected with the cap so that it may be raised or lowered to dip the brush portion proper thereof to the desired extent in the mucilage and so that the brush is adapted to be applied and removed with the cap. The sealing-disk 5 is apertured in line withthe nipple for the passage of the brush-handle therethrough and snugly fits about said handle to form a close joint at the point where the handle passes through the cap.

When it is desired to use the brush, the cap is unscrewed from the neck and is free to be manipulated with the brush. After use the brush is inserted into the bottle and the cap again screwed upon the neck, thus tightly sealing the bottle. It will be observed that the neck is large enough to avoid contact of the brush therewith in the operation of applying and removing the latter, and that as the brush is centrally supported by the cap all liability of the gumming and sticking of the brush to the neck is effectually avoided.

In order to seal the bottle for storage and transportation-before the brush is applied, an auxiliary cap 8 is rovided to engage the external threads of the nipple 4 and to close the passage thereof. the cap and is adapted to be clamped thereby against the nipple to form an air and moisture proof joint. When it is desired to use the bottle, the cap 8 and disk 9 are removed from the nipple, the cap 3. unscrewed from the neck, and the brush-handle screwed upward through the nipple to support the brush proper at the desired elevation.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is A mucilage-bottle having a wide neck provided with external threads, a cap internally threaded to engage the threads of the neck and provided with an upwardly-extending nipple, said niple being internally and externally threa ed, a brush having a handle adapted to extend through the nipple and threaded for engagement with'the internal threads thereof, a sealing-disk adapted to be applied between the cap and neck and having a perforation for the passage of the brush and handle, an internally-threaded auxiliary cap adapted to engage the external threads of the nipple to close said nipple when the brush is removed therefrom, and an imperforate sealing-disk adapted to be clamped between the nipple and. auxiliary cap to seal said nipple.
