UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OLAUDEB. DAVIS ANDADAM T. FINCH, OF CHASE CITY, VIRGINIA NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
T0 00% whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CLAUDE B. DAVIS and ADAM T. FINoH, citizens of the United States, residing'at Chase City, in the county of Mecklenburg, State of Virginia, have in-' vented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles; and we do hereby declarethe following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to non-refillable bottles, and has for its object to provide a bottle of this nature which may be manufactured at a low cost and. in which the parts may be quickly and readily assembled after the bottle has been filled by the manufacturer.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through the neck of a bottle, showing in elevation the invention therein. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view in detail through the neck portion of the bottle.- Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the secondary stopper of the bottle. v
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 5 denotes the neck of'a bottle which is provided adjacent its middle with an annular recess 6 and at its lower end with an interior annular flange 7, which forms a valve-seat for a ball-valve 8. The mouth of the bottle is closed, as in the ordinary manner, by means of a stopper 9, of cork or other suitable material.
Disposed within the neck 5 of the bottle is a secondary stopper, which comprises a diskshaped head 10, having a depending portion 11, which has its outer face rounded to conform to the shape of the neck of the bottle and which has its inner face flattened and lying in a plane at right angles to the under face of the disk-shaped head 10. Extending from the said inner face of the depending portion 11 and at right angles'thereto is a pin 12, which has its extreme outer end in engagement with the side of the neck of the bottle directly opposite the flattened face of the depending portion 11. A strand of Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 3,1906. Serial No. 304.037.
' What is claimed'is- Patented Oct. 30, 1906,
spring-wire is bent at its middle around the pin 12, as at 13, and has the lower end of its arm 14 thus formed bent at an obtuse angle in opposite directions, as at 15, to lie within the annular recess 6.
Formed at intervals upon that edge of the disk-shaped head 10 which lies in an opposite direction from the downwardly-extending portion 11 are diagonal grooves 16, which permit passage of the liquid from the bottle.
It will of course be readily understood that the portions 15 of the locking-wire prevent disengagement of the secondary stopper from the neck of the bottle and that the said secondary stopper prevents alccess to the ballvalve 8. v
1. A device of the class described ada ted to fit in a bottle-neck comprising a iskshaped head, a depending portion extending said dependin portion, and a ocking means carried by said pin and arranged to hold the said device against removal.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination with an annularl -grooved bottle-neck and a valve locate therein, of a guard comprising a head having a depending portion, a pin carried by the said depending portion, and a locking-wire carried by said pin and having its ends disposed in said groove in said neck. 1
3. A device of the class described adapted to fit in a bottle-neck comprising a diskshaped head, a depending portion extending downwardly from the head at one sidethereof, a pin carried by the said depending portion and extending beneath the head, and a lockingmeans carried by said pin and arranged to hold the device against removal.v
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
