URlNAL-BASIN WASTE-PIPE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 9, 1906.
Application filed August 18, 1905. Serial No. 274,720.
' simple basin in which the discharge-pipe and vent-pipe are in a vertical line with each other inside the basin, and the former may be easily lifted to allow sediment to flow out.
With this object in view my invention con sists in the construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical cross-section of my improved device, and Fig. 2 is a cross-section of a part thereof.
a represents the basin or bowl, and b the waste-pipe. The bowl is cut away for the reception of the tubular holding-piece having the top flange c, which holding-piece is screwthreaded at its lower end, a nut d engaging said holding-piece and said waste-pipe, thus securing the latter in place. 6 is a packing between said nut and the bowl.
f is the discharge-pipe, beveled at g, to fit within a correspondingly-shaped recess in the holding-piece. Its lower edge is scalloped, as shown at h, to provide'passages for the escape of sediment and liquid when the tube is raised. The upper part of the tube f is bored out, as shown at i, so that it will slide on the tube m, which serves as a vent for the gases. is a hood or bell secured to the tube f in any desired manner, as by screw-threads and the lock-nut is, extending down into the bowl a and provided with guiding and strainmg arms L.
"m is the vent-tube, removedly secured to the tube f by a union-joint n. The tube f is provided with a number of drainage-perforations p, located within the bell when the latter is in position.
The ordinary operation will be evident from the description; but when it is desired to remove sediment the unionjoint n is loosened and the tube f, carrying the bell j, is slid upwardly upon the stationary tube m, which closes the perforations p, thus preserving the gas-seal.
The advantages of the construction shown are that the waste-pipe and vent-pipe are located in a straight line in a vertical plane, so that gases can readily escape and the wastewater flows evenly on all sides of the tube. The trap can be cleaned better and more easily. All foreign matter as matches, for eXampleis prevented from flowing down the waste-pipe. The strainer and overflow devices are all combined in one structure. The whole device can be easily lifted to allow sediment to flow out and at the same time a tight gas-seal is provided.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 7 1. In a urinal-basin, the combination of a bowl provided with a waste-pipe, a vent-tube supported in line with said waste-pipe and a perforated tube slidably mounted on said vent-tube, said perforated tube having a depending bell attached thereto, substantially as described.
2. In a urinal-basin, the combination of a bowl provided with a vertical waste-pipe, a vertical vent-tube located above and in line with said waste-pipe, and a strainer device provided with perforations located just below said vent-pipe, said strainer device being slidably mounted on said waste-pipe, whereby the upward movement of the strainer device will cause the perforations therein to be closed by the vent-tube, thus preserving the gas'-seal, substantially as described.
3. In a urinal-basin, the combination of a bowl provided with a waste-pipe, a vent-tube in line with said pipe, and a tube provided with perforations, with a scalloped lower end, and with a strainer device, slidably mounted on said vent-tube, substantially as described.
4. In a urinal-basin, a strainer device, in cluding a tube open at both ends and having its upper part bored out and provided with perforations near its upper end and with scallops at its lower end, a depending bell, provided with arms near its lower edge, and
means for securing said bell to said tube, and ascalloped end and abell, substantially substantially as described. as described. 10
5. In a urinal-basin the combination of a In testimony whereof I aflix my signature bowl provided with a Vertically-arranged in presence of two witnesses.
