To all 'whom 'it may concern:

Beit known that I, WILLIAM E. BRooKiI, of Trenton, in the county of Mercer, and .State of New Jersey, have invented a new and improved Shutter and Blind- Operator; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

The object of my device is to open, close, or fasten, and secure, at any desired angle, window-shutters or blinds, fromW the inner side, Without raising the sash, by means of a'worIn-gear attached to the sill, or on the side of the window, thus dispensing with the vuse of shutter-bolts, rings, and turn-buckles.

To enable others tomake use of my invention, I will proceed to describe the same.

A is arod passing through or above the window-sill, under the lower sash, on the inner end of which rod is attached a knob or crank, B, for the purpose of bowing, opening, closing, or fasteningthe shutter, as required.

The outer end of crank B is provided with a wormscrew, (l, supported by bearings, a w, which are secured to the sill. This 'Worm-screw fits into a section of the pinion-wheel D, to which is attached the operating-bar E, curved at the outer end, and connected with slide the window,`and is applicable to shutters, blinds, or y doors, and is a permanent and secure fastening for any desired angle of the shutter; and operated from the inner side, can be 'applied to any kind of window- "frames without altering or damaging the wood-work.

It is attached to the side of the window by simply placing the worm-screw on the inner side of the wheel, and passing the rod A through the frame, as shown in iig. 3. VThe crank or knob by which the shutteror blind is operated thus becomes a curtain-holder on each side of the window.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The worm-gear C- D, arm E, slide F, and slide-bar G, dovetail b b, or their equivalents, when constructed, airanged, and combined substantially as and for the purposes 'herein described.
