Appunti am romy 21,1906.A son: no. 29Min.
To all whom i may concern:
Be it known that I, Amos B. BUCKLAND, a citizen of the United States, residing et Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of Xew York, have invented certain This invention relates to improvements Y incandescent -lam holders, whereby said' lamp may be belt in any desired position, means being provided whereby the 'holder may be quickly adjusted to change the position of the lain A further ob ect is to provide means for at taching the holder in various positions to the ceiling or side walls of a room or to e. desk.
'ith the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and nrranfement of parts. as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
in the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view oi the bracket, showing the saine attached to a ceiling and supporting a lamp, Fig. 2 is a similar view of the opposite side of the holderparts of the bracket-arm being broken away. Fig. 3 is an edge view of the saine. Fig. 4 is n detail side view of the attaching end ot' the bracket, showing the nnmner of connecting thesanle to a desk. Fig. 5 is a similar view showing the manner of connecting the attaching end to a gi1sburner. Fig. 6 is a similar view showing the manner of connecting the saine to s wall or side bracket.
Referring more particularlv to the drewings, I denotes a supporting-arm. which is adapted to, be pivotally connected on the lower end of a bracket '3, seid lnncl ct.being secured to the ceiling or side wall of a room or to a desk or other support. n the supporting'arm 1 is formed u toothed segment l, and in the center of said segmental portion of the arm is arranged a lateraliv-projecting headed stud 4, on which is slidablv and pivotally mounted a right-angulnriy-formed connecting-bnr 5. Suid har is provided with a slot 6, whereby the saine is slidebly connected with the stud 4, as shown. One end of seid right-angularly-formed connecting-bar projects n short distance beyond the upper edge of the toothed segment 3, and on said pro- Ysuppnrting-rsIne 1s arranged a laterallynnivotally connected thereto b eeting sufi. of` the bar is arranged a laterallyprojeeting stud 7", and when thebar 5 is moved upward on the pivot-stud 4 said stud 2.x isfdisengaged from the teeth vof the segmental rack 3, and the bar can then be moved on the pivot 4 to either of the posiV tions shown in Figs. and 6, and then said stnd? X* ney be engaged with one of the teeth of said segmental rack or toothed segment, 3,
thereby holding said right-nngelindy-formed.J
eonneegtfng-bsr at. venons angies withrespent' to the supporting-frame. 0n said protecting stud 8, against. which the bar 5 is adapted to strike, thereby limiting the movement of said bar in one direction.
in the longer end of the bei* is formed a longitudinally-disposed slot 9,' through which s. stud 7 projects, and to seid end of the bar is pivotally connected the inner end of an ed instable supportingerni 10, said arm being in the forni of lszytongbars 12. To the outer end of the arm 1t) is'pi'votslly ernmentO ed a lain fholding arm or bar 13, the inner end of w `eh is provided with s longitudinally-disposed slot i4, through. which is ada'pted to project a guide-screw 15, said screw forming the central pivotal connection of one pair of the lszv-tong bars 12. On the outer end of the guide-screw l5 is screwed a clamping-nut 16, Vsaid nut being adapted to be screwed into tight engagement with the slotted end of the erin or bar 13, thereby holding or locking the lazy-tong bars in their adjusted position, and thus holding the supporting-arm 10 in an extended or retracted position,
The Verin or ber 13 has preferably formed therein e right-angular otiset, and to the end of said o'set portion of the bar is pivotally connected a'lenipdiolding clip 17. Said clip consists of s air of spring-arms 1S, the outer ends of whic i are connected bei s coil-s ring it), thereby affording an adjustable vie dingr holding device for the lamp. Bhe clip 17 is insulated from the end of the erm 10 and is means of a screw 2t), which passes throng the clip and the end of the bar and is rovided with a clamping-nut 21, whereby t e same :nay be held rigidly at various angles, thus permit ting the lamp to be supported in any desired position. To the supporting-arm 1 is secured a wire-holding device 22, said device being preferably in the form of a clip, consisting of curved spring-metal arms which are IOC preferably covered with a suitable insulated material.
By means ot a supporting device such as herein shown and described an incandescent lamp or other articlt` may he supported vin various positions. means being provided whereinY said supporting device ma)v be attached to a ceiling, as shown in Fig. 1, or to a desk, as shown in Fig. 4, in which instance a suitable clamp or attachiinr device 3 is provided to connect the brachet 2 to the desk, means being also provided \vhei'eh \v the supoEting-bracket may be connected to a gasurner, as shown in Fig. 5, or to a side wall, as shown in Fig. ti.
Front the foreeoing description, taken in connection with t te accompanying drawings,
.the construction and operation of the invention Will be readil)v understood without 4rcquiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion,
and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the prin- 'ciple or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
