sectsen Specification of Lettelrj'sPatent. j
" Patented June 12,1906.
- Application filed August .4, 1905. sesame. 272,695.
To all whom it may concern:
- Be it known that I, OSCAR GRISMORE, re-- sidin at McCook, in the county of Redwillow and tate of Nebraska, have invented certain 5 new and useful Improvements in Spouts for jSiftm Machines, ofwhich the following is a spec' cation. p
Myinvention relates to certain new and useful improvements in sifter-s outs for use 10 'in connection with sifting-mi ls and machinery to take the place of the usual cloth stockings now 1n commonuse for connecta ing the feed-spouts with the vibratingportion of the machine and forconnecting the '15 discharge-spouts of the vibratingportion of the machine with the outlet members of the machine.
' Generically my invention includes a tele- 'scopic s out constructed of sheet metal to be 2o adjusta le to. the difierent lengths toenable it to be used on machines of different makes, and'one section ofthe spout connects with 'the feed-aperture of the machine, while the other section connects with the discharge-ap- 2 5 ertureof the apparatus throu 'h the medium aving a felt of a telescopic connection,
washer or packing interposed] between the two telescopic portions 0 v the connection to enable the desired motion to be maintained parts of the machinel without endangering t e structure, arrangement, .or connection of the spout after it has been once placed in position.
. M invention also includes means for main 5 .taimng the spout in its adjusted position and 5 means for counterbalancing the weight of the spout to. always hold it in its set positions with respect to the parts which it connects;
Primarily my invention has for its object 40. to provide aspout of this character of a' very simple economical construction, which can be easil and cheaply manufactured and which will readily and effectively serve its intended purposes.
5 With 0th r'obj ects in view than have heretofore been enumerated the invention also comprises certain novel construction, opera.- tion, and arrangement of parts, all of wh ch will be first described. in detail, and then spe- 5o cifically pointed out in .theap'pended'claims,
reference being had was accompanying v; drawings, inwhichmm Figure 1 1s a pers ective view showlng my invention as applie for use. Fig. 2 is an en- 5 5 larged side elevation of my invention. Fi 3 is a vertical longitudinal section thereo Fig. 4 is a cross-section on the line 4 4 of Fig.
3. Fi .5 is a cross-section taken on the line.
5 5 of ig. 3. Fi 6 is a cross-section taken on the line 6 6 of ig. 3.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals and letters of re erence indicate like parts in all of the figing its lower end rolled up to provide a peripheral roll 1*, and the sa d section 1 is provided with an annular bead l spaced slightly inwardly from the end of the roll 1, to receive a washer or packing 2, of felt or other suitable material, between the bead 1 and the peripheral roll .or bead 1 as shown. The tubular section 1 has abase-plate 1, which is nailed, screwed, or otherwise secured over the bottom of the sifter discharge-aperture, as shown.
3 designates a second tubular member having a base-plate 3, which is secured to the floor or a pocket in the floor, into which the material is to be discharged when my invention is used between the sitter-machine and the discharge therefor; but when my invention is used between the feed-troughs F and the sifter machine Sv then the member 1 is fastened to the feed-trough F- and the member 3 to the sifter S'over the inlet-aperture thereof. Y
The tubular section 3 is of greater diameter than the tubular section 1 and is ada ted to receive the lower tubular portion 4 0 the sifter member 4, which portion 4 is provided at its lower end with a roll or bead 4 and an annular bead 4, spaced upwardly to receivev a washer or. packing 5, of felt or other suitable materia Telescopically fitted into the section 4 of the spout 4; is a second spout-section 4, whose u per end is enlarged, as at 4 to telesco ic-- aily fit over the tubular member an (to snugly receive the washer 2, as shown, thus forming a telescopic connection between the s out-section 4 and the tubular member 1 as s own.
The spout-section 4, together with its washer or packing 5, is telescopically fitted into the section 3, as shown.
' 6 desi nates a clamping-band taking around the outer tubular section. 4*" of the spout 4 at its other end, whereby the two sections/i4 'are-clamped together to serve as a single spout after they have been adjusted wit ,res ect to the members 1 and 3. v
To ho d the spent 4 in its proper positlon ures, 1 designates a short tubular section havtion 4* and is'secured at one end 7 to section its other endsecured td the member 3, wherebythe werght of the s cut 4 will'be sustained by the'spring 7 to hol it always in its proper I cqlflfclative position with respect to the mem- 15 here 1 and 3 to serve as a buffer or balancespring for the spout 4, thus allowing'for the,
necessary motion in themoving parts of the sitter withoutinterfering or disconnecting we the spout 4 from the members 1 and 3.
"The spring 7 also serves as a: compensator to compensate forthe movement of the mov- "ableparts of the sifter mechanism S.
From the foregoing'it is thought, that I haveprovided-a' very simple and effective, 25,
By maki g Y ,to'all ow it to be used on in chines of 'difierent;
makes and types, and the spring 7 also holds the spout from rotatmg due-to theacti'on'of the sitter mechanism.
' In practice my i I factured in difierentsizes andstyles to sup ply machines of different capacities. From the -fore oing description, taken in struction, and many advantages of my n vention. will be readilyiulnderstood by thosg c it appertains, an
skilled in the art tow I desire to say th tmany slight changes in 5 the detailed construction, operation, and'de- Sign of parts may be made without departing from the scope of the invention or the ap-' pended claims. 7 Having thus I claim, and r 1. A. e I
