Be it known that I, ALFRED MAURIon HU- BERT-BRIERRE, a citizen of the Republic of France, residing in Paris, in said Republic, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Covering the Cushions of Billiard-Tables, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to apparatus for covering the cushions of billiard-tables.

The object of the invention is to provide simple means whereby such cushions may be readily and efliciently covered.

The invention resides in the novel features and combinations of parts which will hereinafter appear, and finally be pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional view of a billiard-table, showing the first step in the operation of covering the same. Fig. 2 is a similar section showing the apparatus used .in performing the second operation, and Figs. 3 and 4 are sections showing the manner in which the cushions are applied to billiard-tables of different types.

Similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.

In. the drawings, E denotes the side portion or flange of a billiard-table. To said flange is applied a wooden ledge D constituting the base of the rubber cushion proper, D, which is attached to the inner side of said ledge. The piece of cloth which is to be applied to each cushion is attached to the upper portion of the ledge D by means of a small strip G, about which said cloth is passed at one end, said. strip being countersunk in said ledge, as shown. The opposite end of the cloth is applied by means of tacks to a strip or lath H, having an inner inclined face 71/ disposed toward and parallel to the inner face of the cushion D. Said strip is then moved clownwardly and reversed, after which the flange E is turned upside down, so that the part H assumes the position shown in full lines in Fig. 2, the face k of said part being slightly offset from alinement with the inner edge of the rubber cushion. The cloth is of such length that the strip H assumes the position indicated when forced manually toward the flange E. In order, however, to obtain a greater stretching action, brackets or anglebars L are secured by means of screws Z to the strip H upon the face, which is now disposed upwardly, and said angle-bars are then fed toward the flange E by means of bolts X, which pass through lateral openings N in said flange and engage with their threaded inner ends the upright legs of said angle-bars. By rotating the bolts X said angle-bars are pulled inwardly toward the flange until the outer face of the strip H is in exact alinement with that of the cushion D, when said strip is permanently attached to the base D of the cushion by means of screws, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4:- In order to limit the inward motion of the brackets L, blocks y may be provided, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2. After the strip H is permanently attached the tension device is removed.

The tension in the cloth may be made as great as desired before the strip H is finally screwed in position, and the cushion then presents an eminently satisfactory surface.

Figs. 3 and 4 show means whereby the bolts X, previously described, may be used in clamping the flanges E to the bed of the table. These bolts enter recesses in the sides of the slate portion 0, where they engage suit able threaded blocks a. 'The flanges E may thus be applied to the table as tightly as desired. I

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In an apparatus for covering billiardcushions, the combination, with the apertured flange and the cushion applied thereto, of the bolts passing through the apertures in said flange, the members adjustable by said bolts, and the cloth-carrying strip attached to said members.

2. In an apparatus for coverin billiardcushions, the combination, with a flange provided with a lateral opening, the cushion being secured to the inner wall of said flange, of a strip to which the lower part of the cover is attached a bolt passing inwardly through the openings in said flange, and means for connecting said bolt with said strip.

3. In an apparatus such as described, the combination, with the flange provided with lateral openings, the cushion being secured to said flange, of bolts passing through said flange, members adjustable by said bolts, a strip to which the cloth is attached, and means for attaching said members to said strip.

l. The combination, with the flange having the cushion applied thereto upon the inner face of the same, of means for securing one end of the cloth to the upper portion of to aline with the inner face of the cushion D 15 said cushion, a stripattached to the opposite end of the cloth, brackets attached to said strip, and means for adjusting said brackets toward and away from the inner face of said flange.

5. In an apparatus such as described, the combination, with the flange E having the lateral openings N therethrough, the cushion D D being applied to the inner faceof said flange, the means for attaching one end of the cloth to the upper portion of the cushion D",

the strip H applied to the opposite end of the cloth and having the inclined face 7L2 adapted when said strip is reversed,- the brackets or angle-bars L attached to said strip, and the bolts X passing throughthe lateral openings in said flange and engaging with their threaded inner ends threaded openings in the upright legs of said brackets or angle-bars.
