vBe it known that I, HENRY D.LYi\IA, of Kalamazoo, in thecounty of Kalamazoo, and State of Michigan, have invented a new anduseful Improvement in Horse-Shoes; and I do declare that the following is a true` and accurate description thereof, reference being had to' the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon7 and being a part of this specification.

-This invention relates to the construction of an apparatus to be attached to the ordinary horse-shoe for treating that class of disease known as contracted feet, caused by improper shoeing or otherwise, and by which many fine horses are ruined.

To enable others to manufacture and use my invention, I will now describe its construction and use.

Fig. 1 is a view of the shoe in position to be fastened to the hoof by nails or otherwise. The heels of the shoe are provided with clips B, secured and pivoted to the sameby bolts C and head D, as seen in iig. 2. In the position of clips B, when upon the foot, the outside ofthe clips come in contact with and against the inside of the rim of the foot, and, through the aid of the pivot, adjust themselves to the angle of thehool", and spread the same, thus producing the desired result. What I cla-im as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The attachment of adjustable clips B to the heel of a horse-shoe, when operating with a pivot, substantially as set forth and shown.
