Specification of Letters Patent.

the county of Stafford, England, have invented new and useful Improvements Relating to Glass-Rolling Machinery, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to glass-rolling machines of the type well known as the Chance double-roll-machine, in which one or more pairs of rolls are employed in combination with inclined plates arranged for the support of the glass.
The invention comprises the construction and arrangement of the teeming or like plate (from which the glass is fed between the rolls) in such a manner that the respective surfaces or tablets of the same may very readily and conveniently be successively brought into and placed out of operation, whereby they are maintained in an efiective condition and the life of the plate increased.
Referring to the accompanying sheet of explanatory drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a plan, of a teeming-plate constructed and arranged in accordance with this invention and shown in conjunction with a glass-rolling machine of the type referred to.
The same reference-letters in the two views indicate the same parts.
In one manner of carrying the invention into effect the plate, as a, is made of a triangular, transverse, or sectional form and is mounted on trunnions b, enabling it to be rotated. The trunnions may be fitted with connections for the circulation of water through the interior of the plate. The trun- ,nions are preferably mounted in lever-like supports 0, adapted to be so rocked or moved about their pivot-shaft d, by means of an opcrating-lever, as e, as to bring the forward end of the plate a into its service position in contact with the lower roll, as f, or to withdraw it from such position, as shown by dotted lines at Fig. 1, for the rotation of the plate a to put one of the surfaces or tablets out of action and to replace same with the succeeding surface or tablet. The teemingplate is retained in its operative positions by means of suitable stops, such as g, fixed on the trunnions and engaging conveniently-arranged abutments or catch-pieces h upon the framing or housings i, of the rolls and also by an adjustable stop j, which is engaged by the operating-lever e, as illustrated.
With a triangular plate, as aforesaid, each surface is in action or is in use as a supporting and teeming surface for the glass for one period and is out of service and subjected to atmospheric cooling for two periods, for after a given period of service with one surface or tablet the two remaining surfaces or tablets are brought successively into and put out of action before the first-named surface is again required.
The rotatable plate may be modified in its form and in its arrangement to meet varying requirements. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letter Patent, is-
1. In glass-rolling machinery, the combination with the rolls of a continuous series of glass-supporting tablets rigidly united at their abutting edges and forming a rotatable teeming-plate, and rocking or lever-like supports for the said plate, substantially as de scribed.
2. In glass-rolling machinery, means for feeding the glass between the rolls consisting of a rotatable triangular teeming-plate, the fiat surfaces of which are adapted to receive the glass.
3. In glass-rolling machinery, the combination with the rolls of a continuous series of glass-supporting tablets forming a triangular teeming-plate, trunnions carrying the said plate, lever-like supports for the said trunnions, a pivot-shaft for the said supports, and an operating-lever secured to the said shaft, substantially as set forth.
4. In glass-rolling. machinery, the combination with the rolls of a continuous series of glass-supporting tablets forming a triangular teeming-plate, trunnions carrying the said plate, lever-like supports for the said trunnions, a pivot-shaft for the said supports, an operating-lever secured to the said shaft, and means retaining the respective tablets by turns in the operative position, substantially as set forth.
