Streuung unrTEn sTATEs PATENT oEEroE.
VIRGINIA E. vHARDEE, OF'BEAUMONT, TEXAS.
' BAN DAGE. l
[o all whom it Wray concern.-
Beit known that LVIRGINIA E. HAEDEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beaumont, in the county of Jefferson and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Bandages; and I do declare `the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. l
My invention relates to improvementsin bandages for preventing and reducing double chins upon stout or portly persons.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive, and efficient bandage of rubber or other elastic material, which may be secured beneath al persons chin to support the flesh and prevent called a f double chin. r
The above and other objects, which will appear as the nature of my invention is better what is commonly understood, areacco'mplishedby means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure lis a view showing the application of the invention. of the bandage, and Figs; 3 and 4 are views showing the manner in which the edge of the bandage is reinforced and the connection of the attaching-strings.
Referring to the drawings by numeral, 1 denotes my improved bandage, which is made of elastic material, such as rubber, and which is shaped to iit the chin and the front part of the neck of a person. The bandage is preferably constructed of very thin elastic rubber, and its edge is reinforced by a strip 2 of rubberor other material, so that the bandage' will retain its shape.
The bandage is adapted to be held in position upon a persons chin,
preferably during the night orfwhile asleep, by means of one or more attaching strings or ties 3,.which may be'passed around the neck and over the top ofthe head, as clearly shown Each of the at- Speccatonof Letters Patent. Application led May 9, 1905. Serial No. 259,516.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view Patented Marchv 2o, 1906.
.have one of their ends secured to the bandage,
as shownin Fig. 4 of the drawings. This connection consists in sewing or otherwise securing one end of the string to a tab 5, which is cemented or otherwise secured to the rubber bandage beneath the reinforcing-strip 2.
`The construction, use, and advantages of the bandage will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings. It will be seen that the dev-ice may be worn over nightv or while one is asleepwith little or no inconvenience andl that itwill support the esh beneath the chin, so as to' prevent it from dropping or hanging down.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without` departing from the principle or sacriiicing any of thev advantages of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claimas new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isy The herein-described appli ance for preventing the formation of a double chin and consisting of a piece of elastic material 1, shaped to iit the chin and the front portionV of the neck of the wearer, a reinforcing strip or binding 2 secured around the outer edge of the appliance, tabs 5 secured at the opposite rear and upper edges of the same, head-strings secured to the tabs 5 and binding 2 at the upper edge of' the appliance, and neck-strings secured to the tabs 5 and binding 2 at the opposite rear edges of the same, the piece of elastic material being normally of the shape of anormal chin and neck, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence ofl two lsubscribing witnesses. o
Witnesses CARL XANDER, GEORGE CHILTON.
