Description

. PATENTED MAR. 6, 1906.
M. W. LEE. VBIL HOLDER.

.r. a Z n e V A wz tn es sasx UNITED sTATEs PATENT OFFICE.
VElL-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 6, 1906.
Application filed May 29,1905. $erial No. 262,901.
T0 on whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY WILLOUGHBY LEE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Eastbourne, county of Sussex, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Veil-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a veil-holding frame for hats and the like, its object being the provision of a frame on which the veil may be quickly placed and the frame itself be readily attached to a hat or like article of headear. b A frame according to this invention preferably consists of a member adapted to be threaded through the Veil and provided with pointed side members or pins, which may be inserted into the hat.
Conveniently the frame consists of a slightly-curved length of round wire of steel or other suitable material formed integrally with the two side pins. The center portion of the top edge of.a veil can be very quickly threaded onto the frame and the latter fastened by its pins in front of any hat. The veil is thus held in position while the ends are tied or arranged in any preferred manner.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows one construction of frame according to this invention threaded through the top edge of a veil, and Fig. 2 illustrates the frame in use.
The frame illustrated consists of a front portion or member A, having two side members B. The frame is made of light round wire and the side members B are in one with the portion A. These side members are shaped as long tapering pins, so that they may be readily thrust into the hat to fix the frame and the veil in their proper positions. In use the frame can be quickly threaded through the central portion of the veil C, any
desired fullness being obtained by threading more or less of the veil onto the wire.
The method of fixing the frame to the hat may be readily seen from Fig. 2; but it will be understood that the diameter of the wire forming the frame is exag erated for clearness of illustration. The ame may be of very light but stiff wire and is practically invisible when in position and may be rendered still less noticeable by enamel ing or otherwise coloring the frame so that it matches with the material of'the veil or the brim of the hat.
It is found that a frame according to this invention keeps the veil in place naturally and securely in the roughest weather. Further, it prevents any flattening of the coiffure and dispenses with the trouble of sewing a veil into gathers and attaching it to the hat by pins or otherwise.
A further advantage of the frame is that when the veil is not required to be down the frame allows it to be easily turned upward and backward and secured in any convenient way.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A veil-holder formed of a single piece of wire, having a slightly-curved central body portion upon which the veil is threaded, and end portions bent at substantially right angles to the body portion, said end portions being pointed, whereby they may be readily thrust into the hat and the holder secured in place.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
