Description

v`ALEXANDER W. HALL, or New' YORK, N. rr.
Letters Patent Nm 80,727, dated August 4, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASHBOILBBS.
fitte .ctlgemrle ttfemt tt tu 'tigen Entit ttmt :uit milking @uit uf tige smite.
To ALL WHoM IT MAY coNonnN: y A I l Be it known that I, ALEXANDER W. HALL, ot' the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wash-Boilers; and `I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and
exact description of the sume, reference being had to thc accompanying drawings, forming u part of this specication, in which- Y p t Y Figure 1 represents on in'ncr view of n.wash-boilcr constructed according to my improvement, as seen from above; i V l Figure 2 is a vertical section of the same, and
Figure 3 a sectionalelevation of the same, represented at right angles with {ig} 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate mrresponding parts in the several'gures.
This invention relates to wash-boilers, for cleansing clothing and other fabrics, and itl consists in providing a'circlatxgfchamber, artgcd within'the space between th'bottom ofth"sid``lcll" and the'bcttqmof the boiler, and having suitable communications with the shell and boiler, whereby the circulation of the' water is rendered morercertain,`rapid,'aud uniform. This inner shell and circulating-device may be so constructed 'and combined that they require no special construction of the boiler, but are applicable to old boilers :and those already in use, and, b'y bengremovable, afford facility for themselves being cleaned and cleaning the boiler.
To enable others to make and usc my invention, I will'desc'ribe it with reference to the drawings..
A is the boiler, made of the ameformns un ordinary wash-boiler, or any othersuitablc form.
B'is the inner shell or receptacle, of a form corresponding with the boiler, but suicently smaller to have` a narrow spacobetwcen their sides, and-.a deeper space between their bottoms, and a corresponding space above. This inner shell or receptacle B is kept in place within the boiler A by means of vertical stays or guide-rods a, whichnre secured tothe outer wall of. tho shell B, and which cxtcndfnr enough below to act. as'legsffor the support of the said shell or receptacle-B.
C is a. chamber, rigidly secured to the bottom of the shell B, on the under side thcreofandcommunicating therevrithbyA means of 'perforations oropenings, c, between them, and which communicates with thc interior of the boilerl A through perforatious or'openings, b, in the sides of thc said chamber C.
In the operation of this invention, the lothiu'g or other textile fabrics are placed'withiu theinner shell or receptacle B, and the boiler and `shell are `filled with water to about a level with the upper edge of thcshcliB,
and the heat is applied, `in the usual manner, at the bottom or bottom andsides of the'boiler, and so soon as vthe watcibegins to boil; it ris andpassing` up4 through the spaec between the sides of the boiler :und-shell,
overflows the letter.` Simultaneously with this ris-e and overflow of the'boiling'wster, the cooler watcrsrithin the chamber` C is supplying its place, through the openings b, and, in turn, the chamber C is being filled from the shell or' receptacle B, though the opcningse, and't'hus a continuous and rapid current through the shell -B and thefabrics therein contained is established.
' What I claim as my invention, and desire to have secured by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the circulating-'chamber C, cttachedto the shell B, with thc boiler A, provided with apertures communicating with each, -all constructed und arranged substantially as described. 4
Ar HALL.
