By means of this weight D, thevalve df material, so as tobe light. It is adjustable on the spindle, between'two nuts, ff, as shown.
' The lower-end of the spindle passes through a guide,I g, fastened to the bottom or sides of the vessel A. :When water, is 'iet-into the'vcsscl A, the weight F will become lighter, and when the steam enters the upper i part of 'thevessel A, its pressure ivi1l,rwhen all parts have been properly adjusted, suffice to hold the valve d against the seat. The weight-F tends to draw the valve d down, but the combined action of 4the weight D and of the stean'iheeps it closed, provided the steam has the Vrequired pressure and `the water its required height.
