HEATING-DRUM.
Be it. kno\:\a that I, .lacca K. Momma, a citizen of the Il ni\ied States.I residing at Ilphrata, in the countj' of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and usei tul Improvements in I Ieating-Drums, ot' which i the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to improvements in that class ot' heating devices in which hotl air er the products ot' combustion ot' a stove or furnace circulate around a cylinder through which passes a current of air to be heated; and the objects of these improvements are, first, to pass a heated current around said cylinder in a devious course, and, second, to so construct the drum that all the parts ale held together b v a single member, that the removal ot' said meinbermay permit the separation of the parts.
The invention consists in the construction and` combination of the various parts, as hereinafter fully described and then pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is an elevation ot' a heating-drum embodying my invention; Fig. 2, a vertical section of thesame; Fig. 3, an elevation of the drum, having part ot' die case out away and showing the interior mechanism in full; Fig. 4, a horizontal section on broken line A A ot' Fig. 2; Fig. 5, a top view of the lower air-tubes and of the cone to which they are attached, the case being shown in section; Fig. 6, a plan view of one otl the inner horizontal plates, and Fig. 7 a top plan view.

Referring to the details of the drawings, 1 indicates a cylindrical case or shell, and 2 the base of said case. Base 2 is formed with a rim 3, whereon are the feet 4, a cup forming the center thereof and having converging walls 5 with an annular opening 6 in its bottom, a depending rim or flange 7 around said opening, and a flange or rim 3 around the top of said converging walls, and in the converging walls are four circular openings surrounded by inwardly-projecting rims or flanges 9. The cap hasatlat top l0,provided with an annular opening, around which is an upwardly-projecting flange or rim 11. 'Ihe side wall 12 of the cap slopes downward and rests on the top of case 1, having a downwardly-eur ved rim 13, that projects beyond the side wall of' said case, and in Specification of Letters Patent.

on the outer edge whereof is an upwardlyprojecting flange that embraces the lo er edge of band IT of lower plate l-l, which rests on l:he upper edge of said flange and in the conical wall are L'oui-circular openings 26, surrounded by outwardly projecting flanges 2T. .heat-flue 1S, is of similar construction, having an annular shoulder 29, that rests on vthe upper edge ot' band 1T ot' upper plate 1l, and a flange 30, that embraces said band 1T, and in the conical wall of this cone are circular openings 31, having outwardlyprojecting flanges in the same mannel' as with the lower cone. The flanges ot' the circular openings in the base, the cap, and the cones 23 and 28 are embraced by the ends of air-pipes 33, which are secured in position by tie rods or bolts 34 passing through the walls of the cones and the base and the cap, respectively.
In assembling the parts either one of the ends-the base or the cap-will first be put in its Aplace on case 1. In this case the base, with the inverted cone 23 and the connecting airpipes 33, is fitted to said case 1. 'Ihe flue 18 is put in place. Then the plates 14, with the helical blade 19, are adjusted in position, after which the cap, with the upper cone 28 and the connect-ing air-pipes, is attached to the other parts of the drinn. The parts are then all tightly bound together by a rod or bolt 3:3 passing through openings in the cones and through the heat-flue and secured at the lower end by a nut 36. The smoke-pipe is IOO IOv
engaged with the top flange 11 and the pipe from the stove or heater with the bottom flange i. and itis through the. openings surf rounded by these flanges 7 and 11 that the rod 35 and nut 36 are put in place. As will be seen, the rod 35 is the only7 means by which the ends and the body of the drum arebound together, and when it is removed those parts 1 can at once be separated for cleaning or re- 5 pairs.
