Be it known that we, ROBERT C. CROUCH and JOHN A. TITZEL, Sr., citizens of the United States, and residents of Newcastle, in the county of Lawrence and State of Pennsylvania,haveinvented anew and Improved Magneto-Electric Generator, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Our invention relates, to magneto-electric generators, our more particular object being to produce a type of generator suitable for the production of comparatively weak currents when subjected to movements as, for instance, the movements of a person when the apparatus is carried in the pocket.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying; drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters'of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a plan view of our improved magneto-electric generator, certain parts being broken away for the sake of clearness; and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
A permanent steel magnet 3 is laminated, as shown, and bridging its pole-pieces is a receptacle 4: of non-magnetic material'such, for instance, as brass or silver-containing rolling balls 5, of iron or other magnetic material. The receptacle I is preferably of a boat shape and is provided with clamps 6, which are secured upon the magnet 3 by means of screws 7 or analogous fastenings. The generator-coils are shown at 8 and encircle the magnet 3 and are provided with terminal wires 9 10.
Our invention is used as follows: The generator being placed in thepocket or moved about by the hand, the balls 5, constituting the armatures of the magnet, are causedto roll back and forth within the receptacle 4 and in so doing vary the number of magnetic lines of force proceeding from the magnet to the balls or armatures. It will be noted that the magnet 3 and the receptacle 4 together constitute a closed ring.

Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In amagneto-electric generator, the combination of a permanent magnet, generatorcoils mounted thereupon, and a receptacle connected with said magnet and provided with rolling bodies of magnetic material.
2. In a magneto-electric generator, the combination of a magnetic member of substantially U shape, generator-coils acted upon inductively by said magnetic member, and a receptacle mounted upon said magnetic member and provided with rolling bodies of magnetic material.
3. In a magneto-electric generator, the combination of a magnetic member, generatorcoils encircling the same, and a receptacle provided with fastening members for engaging said magnetic member, and further provided with loose movable bodies of magnetic material.
4C. In a magneto-electric generator, the combination of a permanent magnet, generatorcoils encircling the same, a closed receptacle mounted upon said magnet, and movable armatures mounted within said receptacle, being thereby permanently connected with said magnet.
5. In a magneto-electric generator, the combination of a permanent magnet provided with a receptacle rigidly connected therewith, generator-coils of insulated wire encircling said permanent magnet, and spherical bodies of iron mounted within said receptacle.
6. In a magneto-electric generator, the combination of a permanent magnet having a substantially U-shaped form, generator-coils to be acted upon inductively by said permanent magnet, a receptacle mounted upon said permanent magnet and bridging across from one of the poles thereof to the other so as to form together with said magnet a ring-like member, and bodies of magnetic material mounted within said receptacle.
