Be it known that I, ASHER EULESTA LANG- WORTHY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atchison, in the county of Atchison and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Ironing-Board, of whichthe following is a specification.

This invention relates generally to ironingboards, and more particularly to one having a folding-tripod support, the object of the invention being to provide a novel construction of support which can be quickly and easily opened or closed, as desired, and one capable of supporting the board independent of any fixed object.

Another object of the invention is to provide for the support of a sleeve-board above and in parallel relation with the ironing-board proper, said sleeve-board being capable of quick and easy attachment and detachment.

The invention consists in certain novelties of construction and combination hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing an ironing-board constructed in accordance with my invention and set up ready for use. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view, partly in elevation. Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view, partly in section. Fig. 4 is an end view, and Fig. 5 is a detail view, of the end of the sleeve-board.

In carrying out my invention I employ a board A, which is of substantially the same size and shape as ironing-boards in common use. The head end of this board has a vertical centrally-arranged longitudinal slot B, and upon either side of this central vertical slot are the oblique slots or recesses 0. Parallel vertical brackets B are arranged upon the under side of the board upon opposite sides of the vertical slot, and oblique parallel brackets C are also arranged upon the under side of the board upon opposite sides of the oblique slots 0, and pivoted between the brackets B isthe central leg D, while the side legs E are pivoted between the brackets O. The upper end of the legD is adapted to project through the vertical slot B when the leg D is turned down or opened, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and the upper ends of the legs E fit into the oblique slots or recesses 0 when they are open and spread out, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, the upper ends of the legs being beveled, as shown at E, in order to be flush with the top surface of the board A. For the purpose of holding these legs in their spread positions and also to provide a bearing-surface for the upper end of the central leg I employ a crossstrip F, which is preferably pivoted at F to one side of the board and extends transversely across the head end of the same and is held in this position by means of a hook and catch F The upper end of the leg D is notched upon the under side, as shown at D, in order to fit the cross-strip F, and it is obvious that this leg, acting as a pinch-lever upon this crossstrip, will be prevented. from folding, and the legs E will also be prevented from folding, and the board will thereby be securely supported upon its tripod base. Whenever it is desired to fold the tripod, the cross-strip is disengaged and thrown horizontally rearward.

The legs D and E can then be folded closeagainst the under side of the board.

In connection with the board A, I also employ a sleeve-board G, slotted longitudinally at its rear end, as shown at G, in order to fit over the upper end of the central leg D, the members of said bifurcated end being connected by means of a yoke H, which engages the extreme end D of the central leg D, and thereby holds the sleeve board above the ironing-board A and in parallel relation therewith. A boltI is passed transversely through the sleeve-board in advance of the slot to prevent said board splitting.

It will thus be seen that I provide a simple and efficient construction of ironing-board capable of carrying out all of the objects hereinbefore mentioned.

Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. An ironing-board centrally slotted and having a pinch-lever leg, pivoted thereto, a cross-strip connected to the top of the board at the head end and adapted to be engaged by the end of the pinch-lever, the centrally-slotted sleeve-board having a yoke connected to the rear end, said sleeve-board being adapted to fit upon the end of the pinch-lever leg, above the cross-strip, and the side legs pivoted to the board.

2. An ironing-board having a vertical central slot, and the oblique side recesses at the head end of the board, the central pinch-lever leg, and the side legs all pivoted to the under side of the board, and the cross-strip connected to the top side of the board at the head end and adapted to be engaged by the central and side legs.

'3. An ironing-board having a vertical central slot, and the oblique side recesses at the head end of the board, the central pinch-lever leg, and the side legs all pivoted to the under side of the board, and the cross-strip connected to the top side of the board at the head end and adapted to be engaged by the central and side legs, and the slotted sleeve-board, adapted to fit upon the end of the central leg above the cross-strip.

4:. An ironing-board, having a vertical central slot and oblique recesses at each side of the central slot at the head end of the board, the straight and oblique brackets, the central and side legs pivoted in said straight and oblique brackets respectively, the central lever having its upper end notched, a cross-strip connected to the top side of the board at the head end and adapted to be engaged upon opposite sides by the central and side legs.

5. An ironing-board, having a vertical central slot and oblique recesses at each side of the central slot at the head end of the board, the straight and oblique brackets, the central and side legs pivoted in said straight and oblique brackets respectively, the central lever having its upper end notched, a cross-strip connected to the top side of the board at the head end and'adapted to be engaged upon opposite sides by the central and side legs, and the slotted sleeve-board having the connecting-yoke, said board being adapted to rest upon the central leg and the yoke engaging the end of the same.
