AUGUSTUS C. COOK, OF COLLINWVOOD, OHIO; IN. V. COOK ADMINIS- TRATOR OF SAID AUGUSTUS C. COOK, DECEASED.
TRUCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 791,978, dated June 6, 1905.
Application filed October 31, 1904. Serial No. 230,852.
To roll whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS C. Cook, a citizen of the United States, residing at Collinwood, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Trucks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved truck, which in addition to being available for moving heavy objects may also be used in lifting and loading the same.
The object of the invention is to form an improved device of the kind stated, as will more fully hereinafter appear from the following specification and claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a vertical crosssection. Fig. 3 is a front view. Fig. 4 is an inverted plan view.
Referring specifically to the drawings, the base-frame consists of side pieces 6 and crosspieces 7 at the ends. This frame is mounted upon three rollers, the middle one, 8, being placed lower than the end ones, 9, so that when the load is balanced on the middle roller it may be turned with ease. The middle roller 8 is enlarged at the middle and the end rollers at their ends, as shown, the enlarged parts forming the bearings of the respective rollers.
The upper or movable frame, adapted to lift the load, consists of side pieces 10, connected by cross-pieces 11. Each of the side pieces has on the inner side thereof rollers 12, which slide or travel in inclined ways 13, cut in the side pieces 6 of the lower frame. This ar rangement allows the upper frame to slide down nearly to the floor, with its side pieces 10 beside the side pieces 6 of the roller-frame.
At 14: a winding-drum is indicated, mounted to turn upon one of the cross-pieces 7 of the lower frame. This drum has a pawl and ratchet, as at 15, to prevent back slip and is turned by a handle 16.
17 indicates a rope which winds upon the drum and has branches 18, which extend through blocks 19, secured to the under side of one of the cross-pieces 11, the ends of the ropes being fastened to the side pieces 6.
In use the platform is lowered and rolled under the stove or other object to be moved. Then by means of the Windlass the platform is raised, the wheels 12 traveling up the inclined ways 13. When the legs of the stove are free from the floor, it is ready to be rolled wherever desired.
I/Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A truck comprising a base-frame mounted on rollers and having inclined ways in the outer sides of its side pieces, and a lifting-platform having side pieces with inwardly-projecting rollers which fit and travel in said ways, and a Windlass connected to the said frame and platform and constructed in its operation to raise and lower the latter.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
AUGUSTUS C. COOK.
