SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 791,913, dated June 6, 1905.

Beitknown that I, CLARA ELIA J ONES, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Sistersville, county of Tyler, and State of IV est Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Guspidors, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in cuspidor-s, and more particularly to new and useful improvements in sanitary cuspidors; and it consists in the particular construction, arrangement, and combination of parts which will hereinafter be fully described.

The object of the invention is to provide a sanitary cuspidor with a cover in which is a chamber containing a sponge or other absorbent material adapted to be impregnated with a disinfectant and deodorizer,

A further object of the invention is to provide a cuspidor which is closable and which when closed presents a pleasing appearance.

In describing my invention in detail reference is herein had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a top plan View of my invention. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical section on the line w m, Fig. 1. Fig. at is a side elevation showing the cover swung back. Fig. 5 is a view showing the parts composing the receptacle separated and in section, and Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the top ring of the receptacle.

Referring to said drawings, in which like letters of reference designate like parts throughout the several views, A indicates a cylindrical curtain mounted upon legs or supports a, as shown. Supported by an integral rim or flange H is the receptacle Eof the cuspidor proper, said receptacle being provided with a plurality of lugs f around its inner edge slightly below the upper edge thereof. Seated upon said lugs f and supported thereby is the circular rim or flange I of an inwardly and downwardly inclined or tapered pan D, provided with a bottom opening J. A circular cap-ring F is provided to lit over the outer edge of the top of the rim of the receptacle, as shown.

A substantially triangular nose K is secured, preferably by soldering, to the side of the curtain A, as shown, the same being substantially semicircular in top plan, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. Pivoted upon said nose K is the lug L of a conical cover B, said cover being adapted to rest upon the top of the ring F and to be swung round on the pivot (Z to open the same. WVithin the cover B, slightly above its base, is a fine wire netting or gauze G, which is preferably secured in position by soldering its edges to the sides of the cover. In the cavity or chamber M, above said gauze and supported thereby, is a sponge or similar absorbent N for holding a disinfectant, deodorizer, or both. A downwardly-extending ring or casing O, preferably made integral with the sides of the cover B, is provided in the top of said cover surrounding an opening through which the interior of said cavity or chamber is reached and in which a cap C is made to fit closely. A knob P is provided upon the top of said cap, by which said cap is manipulated. A knob e is provided on the side or edge of said cover B opposite the pivot (Z, by means of which said cover is turned into and out of position with reference to the body of the device. Now, as is apparent, when it is desired to use the cuspidor the cover B is swung round on its pivot d to or partially to the position illustrated in Fig. I, after which it is swung back into place. Anything deposited in the pan D drains through the opening J into the receptacle proper, E. The sponge or other absorbent material being impregnated with a suitable disinfectant, any germs arising from the receptacle are met by said disinfectant, and they are thus prevented from escaping to the atmosphere, while all odor arising from said receptacle is neutralized by the deodorizer, with which said sponge is also impregnated.

From the foregoing it will be seen that I provide an extremely simple and convenient device of the character mentioned, the parts thereof being of such a construction that they may be readily separated for cleaning and readily assembled for use.

Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a cuspidor, the combination with a disinfectant-carrying cover, of a suitably-supported curtain, a receptacle within said curtain and in engagement therewith, a rim or flange H carried by said receptacle and supporting the latter from said curtain, a plurality of lugs f provided on said receptacle, a pan D with a circular rim or flange I seated upon said lugs, and a circular cap-ring F for engaging the rim of said receptacle, said disinfectant-oarrying cover being pivotally mounted over said receptacle, substantially as shown and described.

2. In a cuspidor, the combination with a removable disinfectant-carrying cover, of a scribing witnesses.
