PATENT OFFICE.
JAMEs H. OHANNON, OE CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SCENERY-TRINIMER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 790,343, dated May 23, 1905. Application filed September 6, 1904:. Serial No. 223,517.
To all whom zit may con/cern).-
Be it known that I, JAMES H. CHANNON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State O f Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scenery-Trimmers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,'and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to a novel construction in a frame for sheaves or pulleys particularly adapted for use in theater rigging-lofts for shifting Or trimming scenery, the object being to provide a simple and efficient device of this character on which alarge number of sheaves or pulleys may be mounted and added to from time to time as the necessity may arise in a very simple and easy manner; and it consists in the features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed. l
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating my invention, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a frame constructed in accordance with my invention, showing a plurality of sets of sheaves or pulleys mounted thereon. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of same.
My said device consists of avframe comprising two inclined side bars A, which are secured and at their lower ends rest upon a rim B and at their upper ends are secured to a supporting-bar C, said members B and C being included as part of the frame for purposes of description. The said side bars A are provided with reinforcing-ribs D to stiffen same and are provided at regular intervals in their -upper faces with flanged lateral pockets E, in which the ends of shafts F are adapted to be received and supported, said shafts being preferably clamped therein by means of set-screws G passing through the walls of said pockets and bearing against the end portions of said shafts. On said shafts F are mounted a plurality Of sheaves or pulleys H, which may be single or arranged in sets, as occasion may require, said sheaves or pulleys being revoluble and Aheld against movement longitudinally on said shafts by means of the adjustable collars J, which are held in any desirable position by means of set-screws K. The s aid shafts F are also held againstlateral movement in said frame Or side bars A by means of the adjustable collars L, which are secured in place by means of set-screws M. By means of this arrangement a great deal of space and labor is saved, inasmuch as a single frame may hold a great number of pulleys or'sheaves, and the latter may be removed and replaced or rearranged to suit various purposes with great ease Vand despatch. It is likewise very easy to train ropes over said sheaves Or pulleys by reason of the fact that there is plenty of room for the passage and handling of same, and the ropes may be changed and trained over `different pulleys without withdrawing the ends of the ropes from the frames and reinserting same, it being necessary in most cases only to loosen the set-screws G- and raise one end of the shaft, thereby enabling any desired rope trained over a sheave or pulley thereon to be removed without disturbing any of the other ropes or cables. The inclination of the bars A is such relatively to the. diameter ofthe pulleys and the distant part Of the shafts that the ropes trained over one set of sheaves will be perfectly free of ropes trained over the sheaves of an adjacent shaft. The said device is very simple and advantageous.
I claim as my invention- A frame having sheaves or pulleys, comprising two parallel inclined side bars provided in their upper faces with laterally-disposed pockets adapted to receive shafts, setscrews in the walls of said pockets adapted to bear on said shafts to clamp the same therein, a plurality of sheaves or pulleys revolubly mounted on each of said shafts, and adjustable collars mounted on said shaft and adapted to hold the latter against movement relatively to the side bars and hold said sheaves or pulleys against movement longitul dinally on said shafts.'y
In testimony whereOfI have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JAMES H. CHANNON. Witnesses:
