Description

Vtetra @anni @frn 'AARON B. HARRIS, OF MORRISVILLE, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF, H. D. BRYANT, AND H. H, GATES, OF LAMOILLE COUNTY, VERMONT.
Letters No. 78,963, dated June 16, 1868.
IMPRovED BUTTER-TUB.
- Litige tlghnle ttfernh mniigrse 'trttet nent mit' melting tm nf its rame.
TOALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that L-AABON B. HARRIS, of Morrisville, in the county of Lamolle, and in the State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Butter or other Tubs; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference bein;` had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists n the manner of fastening the cover to the tub by means of metal spring-hooks onthe cover, and flanged plates, forming ratchfbars, on thetub.
In 4order to enable others skilled in' the art to mirko and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation. Y l
In the'annexed drawingsf,4 forming part of this specification, A represents a. tub; B, the cover thereto, which extends a trifle beyond the edge of the tub, and is provided withV one or more metal hooks, a a. l
These hooks are secured on the top of the cover, and bent downwards, their lower edgebeing bentinwards, so as to form a hook, asf'shown in Figure 2.
The lower end of this hook, thusformed, is slightly hevelled, so as-to correspond with the bevelled flanges on the metal platesb b, which are secured to the upper' outside edge of the tub. l
YThe lower side ofvthese heve'lled flan-es is notched in the same manner us a. ratch-bar, that is, with one side et the teeth square; and the hooks at a are so constructed as to give or spring over these teeth, thereby preventing them from slipping olf when once put on, unless so desired, when they may easily be sprung of.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, The metal spring-hooks a a, in combination with the'ilanged ratch-plates bvb, for the purpose of fastening the cover to the tub, substantially-as and for the purposes herein set forth. l
In testimony that I claimv the foregoing, I'have hereunto set my hand, this 23d day of May, 1,868.
. A. B. HARRIS.
