SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 789,390, dated May 9, 1905 Application filed September 8, 190 i. Serial No. 223,759.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, GHAnLEs W. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Norwalk, in the county of Huron and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Pole Fixtures; and Ido declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this speciiication.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in curtain-pole brackets or fixtures; and the object of the invention is to produce a simple and eflicient device of this character whereby a curtain may be easily taken down and adjusted in place; and it consists, essentially, in the provision of a socket member which is adapted to be permanently fastened adjacent to the frame of a window and in the provision of a curtain-pole which is held in bracket members having a split shank portion which is adapted to be removably held in said socket member, thus making it easy and convenient to take down the pole and remove and replace the curtain when desired.

The invention consists, further, in various details of construction and in combinations and arrangements of parts,which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.

My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which drawings similar letters of reference indicate like parts in the views, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View showing my improved curtain-pole-bracket members adjusted for use. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal sectional view through the bracket memhere. Fig. 3 is a detail view of one of the brackets having a slitted dowel at the end thereof, and Fig. 4: is an enlarged sectional view through one of the socket members.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A A designate two socket members, which may be fastened to any fixed object by means of screws B, which pass through the bottom walls of each chambered portion of the socket members.

C designates one of the bracket members, which supports one end of a pole D and is provided with a hole E for the reception of one end of said pole, while one end of the member is formed into a pin l) of a size to snugly lit within the bore of the socket memher, and a slit (Z is formed in the end of said pin for the purpose of allowing the two halfsections of the pin to snugly wedge in the bore of the socket member, which preferably tapers slightly toward its lower end for the purpose of securely holding by friction the pin within the socket member.

In adjusting the apparatus the pole is cut the desired length and its ends are inserted in the holes in said brackets, after which the pins at the ends 01' the brackets are pushed into the socket member, and as the wall of each chambered portion of the socket member tapers slightly it will be observed that the pins upon the bracket members will be securel y held by friction within the socket member, thus providing a simple and eflicient means whereby a pole may be easily removed by first withdrawing the pins at the ends 01? the brackets from said socket member, after which said brackets may he slipped over the ends of the pole.

While .l have shown a particular construction of apparatus embodying my invention, it will be understood that .1 may vary the details of the same, if desired, without in any way departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
