Description
@atten tatrs atnt @ffice JOHN-C. CLIME, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA', ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF -AND HENRY C. KING, OF SAME PLACE.
Letters Patent Nb. 78,647, dated June 9, 1868.
IMPROVBD BEDS'IEAD. i
y T0 ALL WHOM I'l MAY CONCERN:
Beit known that I, JOHN C. CLIME, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Al inprovements in Bedsteads; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings;` forming part hereof, in which drawings- Figure 1 is a top view of a bedstead with my improvements added thereto.
Figure 2 is a side View of one of the springs, showing also a portion of a slut and ofthe spring-bar detaehed In the drawings, the bed-posts are marked a, the rails and'the bottom slats c. Said slats are attached, hy pins, screws, or other like fastenings, to the bars e andf, at the head and foot of the bedstead, said pins, &c., i being inserted through short slots, d, in the slats c. The bars e andfare supported by and turn freely in the sockets or bearings g, as shown in tig. l. 7L is a bar, supported by sockets z' and j. This har L is located at or near the middle ofthe bedstead, and furnishes support for the springs 7c, the loops or levers of which springs are bent at their extremities, as shown in fig. 2, so as to form a recess for the slats to rest in, and thus prevent lateral movement of the slats.
The slots OZ permit a longitudinal movement of the bottom slats e, and the bars e and f, to which said slats are fastened, are free to turn on their journals; the two, therefore, constitute an easily-yielding attachment for the slats, which allows the springs 7c to come into full play, Whenever the bottom slats c are depressed by imposed weight. v
Having tllus described my invention, I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent l The bed-bottom, composed of the sluts c, attached at head and foot to theibars e andfrespeetively, said bars being free to turn on end bearings or journals, in combination with springs lc and spring-bar L, these several parts being constructed and arranged and operating substantially as shown and described.
JOHN C. CLIME.
