Be it known that I, J. M. BUTTERS, of North Fryehurg, in the county of'Oxford, and Statel of Maine, hare n'vented a new Improvement in Clothes-Bars; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and the' letters of reference marked thereon, to he a full, clear, and exact description of the same, .and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-

This invention relates to improvement in hars such asrarc used for drying clothes, and consists in the arrangement of the bars'upon semicircular brackets, the s-.xid baars hung in the said brackets, so as to extend radially therefrom, and the brackets constructed so as to secure the hars in the bracket-s by means of continuous pivots around each bracket and through the several bars, and vso constructed that the upper bars, when extended, by rising on the said pivot, are set back under a ledge on the bracket, so that the said ledge and pivot sustain the 'said bars.

To'enable others to construct my improvement, I will proceed t-o describe the same, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

Aie the bracket, fixed to a back, B, by which the bracket may be attached to the wall or any convenient position. The bracket is made with spaces, C C, lite., and with a ledge, a, project-ing over 4the said spaces, and around the brackets a groove is formed to receive a wire, dro'r instead ot" a groove said wire may he placed on the outside of the brackets A, passing through hack B, z1nd held securely by screws and bolts. v The b'arsD have a slot, f, formed near their ends, so that the wire will pass through them and permit the bars D to swing thereon, so that, when the bar D is raised to the position denoted in red lines, fig. 3, it may be setback beneath the ledge a, and by the said ledge and pivot d the upper hars will there be held extended, as denoted inred lines, iig. 3.

I arrange two brackets, A and A', upon the backv B, and place the bars D in bracket A in like manner as in the upper bracket A, except that the bars D' are not slotted and pushed back. I turn the hars D up in folding, as denoted in fig. 3,'the upper bars falling down between the saine, and thus, in the same space which' the single series of hars would require, I arrange two sets of hars. i

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is i The combination of the bars D D with brackets A and A', pivots d d, and projections-a a., and hack B, the whole constructed as'described, and operating as set forth.
