TROUSERS-LEG SUPPORT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 784,721, dated March 14;, 1905. Application filed June l4 1904. Serial No. 212,458.

To all whom, it may concern.-

Be it known that we, FREDERICK A. E. WEN- ZEL and CHRISTIAN O. HJERMSTAD, citizens of the United States, residing at Red Wing, in the county of Goodhue and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers-Leg Supports; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

Our invention has for its object to provide. a simple and efficient device adapted for application to the upper portion of a shoe and the lower portion of a trousers-leg to thereby loosely hold the rear bottom portion of the latter out of contact with the ground.

To the above ends the invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described. and defined in the claim.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters in dicate like parts throughout the several views.

Figure 1 shows the lower portion of one leg of a pair of trousers, a portion thereof being broken away, in its normal position with respect to a shoe, when the said parts are worn, and shows one of our improved trousers-leg supports in operative position. Fig. 2 is a detail view in plan, showing the trousers-leg support removed from working position and on a larger scale than in Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a side or edge elevation of the said support.

The numeral 1 indicates a shoe, and the numeral 2 the lower portion of one leg of apair of trousers, portions of the latter being broken away.

The numeral 3 indicates a quite light flexible strap one end of which is attached to a flat hook 4, that is adapted to be hooked over the rear upper flap or ankle portion of a shoe and is formed with an inward bulge 5. which increases its frictional bite upon the said shoeliap and prevents it from being accidentally displaced. The lower portion of'the strap 3 is passed through the eye 6 of a double-pointed spring-barb 7 and is turned back upon itself the points into the cloth.

By adjustments of the strap 3 it is of course evident that the rear bottom portion of the trousers-leg may be hung at any desired distance above the ground regardless of the height of the shoe to the top. It is also evident that when the trousers-legs are supported by our improved devices the trousers-legs hang loosely and the supporting devices are entirely hidden from view. Furthermore, the trousers-legs hang simply under their own weight and are not put under downward tension, but hang just as freely as a trousers-leg hung in the usual way. The said devices, however, will absolutely prevent the rearlower portion of the trousers-legs from dragging or scraping against the ground and will thus prevent the same from wearing out rapidly and from becoming dirty and muddy. The said supporting devices are especially serviceable in wet or rainy weather or when the ground is muddy or damp.

The said devices are of small cost, may be quickly applied in working positions or removed therefrom, and are in no respect objectionable.

What we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is as follows:
