SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 782,855, dated February'21, 1905. A licati n fil d November 27,1903. Serial No. 182,723.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J ACOB KAUFMANN, a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, but now residing at Germantown, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heddle-Frames, of which the following is a specification.

My invention has relation to hooks for supporting cross-bars in heddleframes; and in such connection my invention relates to the particular construction and arrangement of the hooks for such defined purpose.

The nature and characteristic features of my present invention will be more fully understood from the following description,taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of a portion of a heddle-frame and heddles in which the hook of-the present invention is arranged to support from each bar of the frame a cross-rod on which the heddles are supported, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged side elevational view of the hook.

Referring to the drawings, a a represent the end bars of the heddle-frame, and I) one of the two side straps connecting said bars together. Within the framework so formed and adjacent to each bar a are suspended the cross-rods (Z, upon which the heddles e are supported and arranged to slide. Each crossrod d is suspended from the adjacent bar a by one or more hooks g,the construction and arrangement of which forms the subject-matter of the present invention. The hook consists of a strip of metal g, bent at g intermediate of its ends to form two shanks g and g which are bent and doubled at g and then united and bent outward and upward and singly inward at The shank g, remaining unbent opposite the bent portion g of the shank g forms a yielding support 9 for the portion 9 and assists in holding and returning the same into engagement with the straight portion of the shank g opposite thereto. In this manner two superposed closed and elastic elongated loops g and g are formed, the upper loop, 9, of which is adapted to inclose the bar a of the frame and the lower loop, g is adapted to inclose the cross-rod (Z. The bent portion g of the shank g forms two inclined surfaces g and g which permit the entering and removal of the cross-rod d from the lower loop g Having thus described the nature and object of my invention,what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A hook for heddle-frames, comprising a single strip of metal bent intermediate of its ends to form two shanks, doubled, bent together and. singly to form two superposed yielding elongated closed loops of respectively different lengths, the upper one adapted to surround the bar of a heddle-frame and the lower one adapted to surround the cross-bar carrying the heddles, and to permit the sliding of said cross-bar into and out of the lower loop by two inclined surfaces formed at the end of one of the shanks adapted to close the lower loop and to be held and returned to operative position by the unbent portion of the other of said shanks.
