TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN Be it known that I, JOHN McFADDEN, of Cadiz, i the county'olil Harrison, in the State ofOhi'o, have invented a new and improvedL Truss-Supporterg,v and 'Ido hereby declare the, follwingitio be a full,4 clear, and exact description thereof, fwhich will enable those skilled in the art tomake and use the saine, reference being` Vhad to the accompanying drawing, forxning part of this specification, in whic'hrdrawingl Figure 1 represents a front elevation of this invention.
Figure 2 is a. rear elevation-thereof.
Simi-lar letters indicate corresponding parts, i p
This invention consists in a truss-pad p'rovidedwith a series of radiating buckles, which arejntended t'o receive and retain a waist-strap, two. thighstraps, and a shoulder-brace, in such a. manner that, byv adjusting the several straps in their buckles, the pad can be broughtto bear on the alicted part with more or le'ss'force,`
and all injurious or painful strain can be avoided."
A represents a truss-pad, which, by preference, is provided with one or more internal springs, so that it acts on the aiicted part of the human body with a yielding pressure.
This pad is provided with a series of radiating buckles, a b c d e, asv clearly shown ih iig. 1 ofthe drawing.
The buckles a and c serve to fasten the waist-strap B, and to'this strap is secured one of the thigh-straps, C
which, when the truss-padlis in position, extends down on the back of 'the body, andathrough between the legs,
and is secured in the buckle e. The second thigh-strap, D, extends 'from the buckle c around-the upper part i i ofthe-'thigh to the buckle d, and this strap is steadied in its-position by the additional brace D', which extends',
from the baekpart of the lwaist-strap and connectswith said thigh-strapl D, as shown in iig. 2. From the buckle b extends the shoulder-brace E, which passesever one of the shoulders and down'on the'bzick, connect ing by a bucklejf, with waist-strap B. t V i By adjusting the several stra-ps in their buckles, -the truss-pad can be broughtto bear on the afflicted part with any desired force, and it can be mad-etc act'from above, or from below, or from either side, as the nature ofthe rupture may require, and, if the straps are properly adjusted, the padis-'rmlyuretained in position, so that the same is not liable to becoine displaced Vbythe motions of the body. Byreleasngone or moreof .the straps, the 'body can be temporarily relieved from the pressure without removing the-truss entirely.
By this arrangement, a truss isvobtained which acts on the rupture with a positive pressure, and whichcan be readilyvadjusted to conform in its action to the nature of the rupture. p
Having thus described myinvention, what Iclaim as new, and desire tosecure by LettersPatent, is
vA ltruss-p ad,.A, provided with a series of radiating buckles, a b c cl e, and actingin combination with the straps B C D E, substantially asand for the'purpose described. p 4 i i Also the additional brace D', in combination with the pad A, waist-strap B,and thigh-strap D, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
JOHN McFADDEN.
