BRUSH-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 778,272, dated December 27, 1904. Application filed August 30, 1904. Serial No. 222,770.

Beit known that LWILLIAM D. Roor, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Danville, in the county of Vermilion and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Brush- Holder, .of which the following is a speciiication.

This invention relates to devices for supporting brushes and the like, more particularly for the use of painters and similar workmen in maintaining brushes and similar implements or articles in position for use and to prevent injury thereto, and has for its object to produce a simply-constructed and convenient device by means of which the article may be Supported in a paint-pail or other vessel or upon a wall, rack, or other support in convenient position for ready access when required for use.

With these and other objects in view, whichA will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating characters, is illustrated the preferred form of the embodiment of the invention capable of carrying the sameinto practical operation, it being understood that the invention is not necessarily limited thereto, as various changes in the shape, proportions, and general assemblage of the parts may be resorted to without departing from the principle of the invention or sacricing any of its advantages.

In the drawings thus employed, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pail with the device attached. Fig. 2 is a perspective view, enlarged and partially in section, of the device detached. f

The improved device comprises a frame formed with spaced side members 10 1I, con- ,nected-at one end by a transverse bar 12 and with a central member 13, provided with a longitudinal recess preferably enlarged laterally at the inner end, as at 14.

The frame will be of resilient metal, preferably wire of steel, brass, or other suitable metal, formed from a'single piece and bent into the required shape.

A supporting member 15 is provided for insertion in the recess in the central member and enlarged laterally at one end, as at 16, to correspond with and lit into the enlargement 14 and with the other end bent off laterally,

The portion 17 is thus in position to support a brush, as at 21, which represents the handle of a brush having an aperture 22 to receive the member 17.

It will be obvious that the device may be supported upon any size or form of pail or similar vessel over the rim of which the device may be sprung or connected in the same manner with a rack or other supporting structure with which the same may be similarly connected.

Generally the brush-handles will lbe provided with an aperture to receive the point 18 of the member 17; but when it is desired to `suspend a brush in the handle of which the aperture has not first been made therequisite aperture may be readily produced by using the point 18 as an awl or boring implement previous to the attachment of the device toa pail or other support. vice a very complete and eiicient device for the purposes described.

As a new article, a frame of resilient wire with spaced sides connected at one end by a transverse bar and with a central bend in said bar having spaced sides parallel to said frame side members, and a supporting member disposed between the sides or' said central bend and held for rotation therein by an inclosing clamping-band, the free end of said supporting member being bent laterally above said transverse bar.
