Patented November 22, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY BROWN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DROVERS' 'WHIPY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 775,669, dated November 22, 1904.
Application filed October 19, 1903.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRQY BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drovers Whips; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to a novel construction in a drovers whip, the object being to provide a whip in which the lash is revoluble relatively to the stock and may be removed and replaced; and it consists in the features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the'accompanying drawings, illustrating my invention, Figure l is a central longitudinal section of a whip-stock constructed in accordance with my invention, showing the rod to which the lash is secured in elevation.
Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
The main object of my invention is to provide a very simple device of this character the parts of which are cheap and durable and very readily separable, so that either part can be readily replaced at any time in case of breakage.
To this end my device consists of a stock A, having a reduced upper end B, inclosed by a ferrule C, and having a central cylindrical re- Serial No. 177,646. (No model.)
cess D in said upper end, which is adapted to receive the lower cylindrical end E of a member F, to which the lash is adapted to be secured. The said cylindrical end E of said member F is provided between its ends with an annular groove G, into which a pin H, passing transversely through said stock A, is adapted to project, thus holding said stock A and member F against relatively longitudinal movement, but allowing them free relative rotary movement. Said members are easily separable by removing said pin H, as will be obvious.
I claim as my invention- In a droverswhip, a stock having a reduced outer end and provided with a central longitudinal opening in said reduced end, and a ferrule fitted on said reduced end, combined .with a lash-shank having a reduced end engaging in the bore in the stock, and revoluble therein, said reduced end of the lash-shank having a circumferential groove, a pin passed
