Description
No. 775,426. PATENTED NOV. 22, 19021. I
L. K. JOHNSON. TYPE DISTRIBUTING APPARATUS.
I APPLIOATION FILED MAR ZH, 1904.
UNITED STATES iatented November 22, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS K. JOHNSON,
MACHINE COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TYPE-DISTRIBUTING APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 775,426, dated November 22, 1904.
Application filed March 28, 1904. Serial No. 200,224. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that LLOUIs Kossu'rH J onnson, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Type-Distributing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to type-distributers in which the types are dropped by hand into hoppers or receivers formed with convergent side walls, by which the types are guided into conduits which convey them to type-containing channels for use in type-setting apparatus.
The invention is designed to insurethe descent of the types through the conduits on the fiat or broad side; and it consists, essentially, in forming the lower end of each hopper or receiver opening the edges of which turn a type descending on edge so that it enters the conduit on the flat.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a portion of a type-case embodying my invention on plane of line 1 1, Fig. 2; Fig. 2, a vertical section upon plane of line 2 2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an isometrical view of the front plate of one of the receivers. C represents an inclined conduit plate formed with a series of conduits 0 0, constructwith an inverted-V-shaped ed to conduct types from the receivers R R to type-containing channels T, arranged upon the bed B, the types being advanced in said channels T by automatic mechanism, as by wiper-cams W.
The receivers R are formed by a front'plate or plates 1, fitting over the flat upper side of the conduit-plate O above the conduits c 0. These front plates 7* r are convex externally and their lower ends are made with inverted- V-shaped openings 4), the edges of which are substantially vertical, sothat the arms of the V extend downward considerably below the apex of the inverted V. As a result types descending upon the floors of the receivers upon edge are turned by the convergent edges of the openings 4) so that they enter the conduits 0 0 upon their broad or flat sides.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a hand-distribution type-case, a type-receiver formed with convergent front walls and with an opening at its lower extremity made in the form of an inverted V, for the purpose described.
LOUIS K. JOHNSON.
