TO ALLl WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, JA'MESvMcCARTHY, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Extension-Pipe Coupling; and I do hereby declare that' the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which"- Figure 1 represents a longitudinal section of my improved pipe-coupling. v

This invention relates to a new.pipe'coupling, which is so arranged that theends'vof pipes thatA are a greateror less distance apart from each other can b c connected by the same. Its object is to take the strain from the pipes, and to make 'np small spaces which may be left between the ends of the pipes. I

The invention consists in thc use of two pieces of pipe, of which one screws into the other, so that the whole length may bo increased or diminished at will. At the outer-'end of each piee'is a screw-thread or other means of connecting it to the pipe;

The invention is applicable to steam, gas, water, and other pipes.

A represents a. tubular piece, which is provided with a screwthread, a, around its surface, the same extending from its inner endalmost to the outer end. i

B is a. tubular piece, having'a screw-thread, o, on its inside, which corresponds to that"on Aso that the two pieces can be screwed togethexy'as shown.

In the outer end of each piec'e,'-A and B, is an internal screw-thread, or its equivalent, by which each piece can be secured to a. piece of pipe, as shown by red lines inhg. l. Itkwill be seen that, by this arrangement, the coupling A B can be niadelonger or shorter at will.

C is ajam-nut, which has a conical end corresponding to a similar depression or concave in the inner end of B. By means of this nut the pieces can, at all times, be firmly secured in any position.

By having one or indre branches on the piece A or B, three or more pipes may be connectedl by this coupling.

Haring thus described my invention, what -I lclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 'is.-

1. An extension-pipe coupling, made by connecting the tabular pieces A and B, substantially in 'the manner set forth.

2. The above in combination with the jam-nut C, made as herein shown and described.
