These lifter-s 'are set in small shafts, one cf which is seen in fig. 5. On the end of said shafts are cams, s s', (see iig. 4c.) The object of these cams is to thrownp the cutter and punch when they have been pressed down by cams Za and d, It willbe remarked that the cam d is a triple one, the two outside ones acting upon the slide, while the centre one operates the punch, fully shown in figs. -1 and 2.

The operationA of oui; machine isf'as follows; Motion is given to the shaft D by means of a band passing over Wheel E. As the Wheel F revolves, motion'is imparted tothe movable bed by the circular button working in the calm-shaped groove While the cutter is up. The metal from which the nuts are to he cut is pushed in guide W. The cutter n now descends and severs the blank, when it falls into die z. The farmers now being operated upon by the metal plates'lc k', come together, and, with the metal bars 7cv and k3, form a squarev box, thus giving the nutthe desired shape. The slide now descending, presses the blank into the concave die, and then follows the punch and drives a hole through'it. The nut, as soon as relieved frein the punch and slide, is pushed'out of the concave dieby the formerf. The next nut, being operated upon in the saine manner, forces the preceding one forward in the groove, and so on until it falls from the m'achine.
Having thus fully described our invention, whatwe claim as new, and Vdesire to secure by Letterslatent, is
1. Sliding bed B, having buttonGr and pivoted lever I thereon, with camlwheel F, providedivith studs 7c c, all constructed and arrangedsubstantially as described.
2. Wefclaim arranging thelczuns a b c d e s s so as to operate the cutter n, slidem, und punch j), subston tially as set forth.
3. The improved n utdnechine, consisting of mechfinism constructed. combined, and arranged substantially as herein set forth.
