Description
PATENTED OCT. 4, 1904.
H. G. MAGWILLIAM.
SUSPENDERS.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 13, 1902.
N0 MODEL.

UNITED .STATEs Patented October 4, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
SUSPENDERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 771,799, dated October 4, 1904.
Application filed May 13, 1902. Serial No. 107,092. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HUGH G. MACWILLIAM, a citizen of theU'nited States, residing at New Rochelle, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in suspenders of that class in which the shoulder-straps are independent and are connected with independent trouser-tabs having means for attachment to the rear of the trousers, the object of the invention being to provide a flat-strap connection between the shoulderstraps and tabs which will compensate for the varying movements of the shoulder-straps and tabs and equalize the strain upon the tabs.
To this end my invention consists in the features of construction and combination hereinafter particularly described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a view of the rear ends of the shoulder-straps with the button tabs and intermediate web connections, and Fig. 2 is a detailed View of one of the double loops carried by the tabs.
In the drawings, A and A represent the shoulder-straps, and B and B the trouser-tabs. The tabs are provided with suitable means, such as the eyes 2, for attachment to the rear of the trousers. Carried by the rear ends of the straps A and A are metal loops 3 and 3, respectively. Carried by the upper ends of the tabs B and B are metal loops 4 and 4, respectively, having preferably hinge connection 5 with double metal loops 6 and 6, respectively. The shoulder-straps are connected with the tabs B and B by the followingdescribed arrangement of straps: One pair of straps 7 and 8 is connected with the metal shoulder-strap loop 3*, and another pair of straps 9 and 10 is connected with the metal shoulder-strap loop 3. The straps 7 and 8 are carried downwardly from the loop 3 to and through the eyes of the double loop 6" upon the trouser-tab B and thence upwardly to the straps 9 and 10, to which, near their point of connection with the loop 3, the straps 7 and 8 are secured by stitching 11. In passing through the double loop 6 the front connecting-strap 7 is preferably passed through the upper eye of the loop and from front to rear,
while the rear strap 8 is passed through the lower eye and from rear to front. The other pair of connecting-straps is in like manner carried first downwardly to and through the eyes of the double loop 6 upon the trousertab B and thence upwardly to the' straps 7 and and 8, to which, near their point of connection with the loop 3, the straps 9 and 10 are secured by stitching 12. In passing through the double loop 6 the front strap 9 is preferably passed through the lower eye of the loop and from front to rear, while the rear strap 10 is passed through the upper eye and from rear to front. In passing from the loops 6 and 6 to the opposite shoulder-straps the connecting-straps are interlaced, as shown in the draw- 1ngs.
By the construction described great ease and freedom of action is attained and the twisting of the trouser-tabs is avoided.
It is obvious that various modifications may be made within the principle of my invention, the scope of which is defined in the claims.
I claim 1. A pair of suspenders comprising the shoulder-straps, a pair of independent trouser-tabs, two pairs of straps each pair having fixed connection at the ends with the rear ends of the shoulder-straps, one pair of said straps having intermediate sliding connection with one of said trouser-tabs, and the other pair having similar connection with the other trouser-tab, said connecting-straps in passing from the trouser-tabs to the shoulder-straps being interlaced.
2. A pair of suspenders comprising the shoulder-straps, a pair of independent trouser-tabs, double loops carried by each of said tabs, two pair of straps connecting the rear ends of said shoulder-straps, one pair of said straps being intermediately threaded through one of said double loops, the two straps constituting said pair being threaded through said* double loop from opposite sides, and the other pair of straps being similarly threaded through the double loop of the other tab.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HUGH G. MACWILLIAM. Witnesses:
H. S. J OHNSON,
EMILY EASTMAN.
