PATENT EETCE.
ROBERT FOX, OF NEW ROCHELLE, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO SAKS & COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
DRESS-PROTECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 770,458, dated September 20, 1904.
Application led April 27, 1904. Serial No. 205,132. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I,ROBERT Fox, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New Rochelle, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Dress-Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in dress-protectors, and has more particularly for its object to provide a protecting-garment for womens dresses which may be very readily applied and removed without unnecessarily mussing the dresses.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l represents the protector in front elevation. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse section in the plane of the line A A of Fig. I. Fig. 4 is a transverse section in the plane of the line B B of Fig. l, and Fig. 5 is a partial vertical central section from front to rear through the lower portion of the garment.
The garment is denoted by l, and it is provided with a number of spring-clips. The upper spring-clip is denoted by 2, and it is secured within the garment, near the top ot' the same, so as to encircle the waist of the wearer when the garment is applied over the dress. The ends of the spring-clip 2 overlap, thus causing the edges of the garment to lap over each other at the back of the garment when in use. A second spring-clip 3 is secured within the garment in position to encircle the dress at a point above the knees of the wearer, and a third spring-clip I is secured within the garment in position to encircle the dress at a point below the knees of the wearer. These spring-clips 3 and 4 also have their ends overlapping, so as to cause the edges of the garment to overlap each other along the back of the same. This insures the complete inclosing of the dress by the protector, thus preventing the access of the elements and dust and dirt to the dress. This garment also serves as a wrap for the wearer.
The foot-covering is provided at the bottom of the garment, which foot-covering is removably secured to the front of the garment in position to receive the feet of the wearer when the garment is in use. Fastening devices -such, for instance, as the usual socletclasps-are used for removably securing the foot-covering to the front of the garment. This foot-covering is so constructed as to receive both of the feet of the wearer and is also arranged so that the feet may be readily inserted and removed.
The garment is preferably made waterproof and may be formed of an outer layer of rubber cloth and an inner lining of woolen fabric. However, I do not wish to limit myself to any particular goods, nor do I wish to limit myself to the number of spring-clips used nor the location of the same. Hence I do not wish to limit myself strictly to the construction herein set forth; but
What I claim as my invention is- A dress-protector comprising a body and leg encircling portion and a foot-covering removably secured thereto.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 20th day of April, 1904.
ROBERT FOX. Witnesses:
