Be it known that I, 'VIRGIL H. GAIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Card or Label Holders for the Home Routing of Cars, of which the following is a speciflcation. V

The invention aims to provide a new and novel holding device hereinafter more specifically referred to and which is adapted for holding labels or cards which are adapted to be employed forindicating the lines of railways over which a car travels and also to indicate the names or the junction-points at which the car may be transferred, as well as the dates of the transfer.

The invention further, aims to provide a card or label holder for the home routing of cars which shall be simple in its construction, strong, durable, eflicient in its use, and com: paratively inexpensive to manufacture.

In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the following views, in which 7 v Figure 1 is an elevation of the card-holder. Fig. 2 is .a vertical sectional View thereof, showing several cards in position. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 6 6 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a section on line? 7 of Fig. 1.

The card or label holder consists of a rectangular flat plate of suitable material 20, having'its top bent to form a gutter 21, constructed of any suitable shape. The plate is bent upon itself at its lower end to form a.

Secured to the outer face of the plate 20 is a pair of vertically-extending strips of material 23, substantially L-shaped in contour and suitably spaced apart. Secured to the front of the plate 20 is a pair of laterally-extending strips of suitable material 26, having their lower ends beveled, as at 27 The strips 26 are suitably spaced apart and preferably have their lower ends engage the strip 25, although this is not necessary, as the ends of the strips 26 may be above the strip 25. Owing to the sloping bottom of the pocket the cards are retained therein in such mannerthat one will project above the other, so that when it is necessary to remove the front card it can be easily grasped by an employeeof the railroad.

The pocket formed by the strips 23 and flange 24 is adapted to receive the defect and repair cards for the car, and the pocket formed by the strip 25 and flange 22 is adapted to receive the penalty-card, trackage-slip, or other special cards.

Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. Means for home routing railway-cars comprising a holder for cards, said holder provided With a pocket to receive the card and a combined guide and retainer for the cards having its inner end extending in the mouth of the pocket and engaging the front face of the outer card.

2. Means for home routing railway-cars comprising a holder for the cards, said holder prov1ded with a card-pocket havlng an open front Wall and a combined guide and retainer for the cards having its inner end extending in the mouth of the pocket and engaging the front face of the outer card.
