Be it known that I, LEON R. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pendleton, in the county of Madison and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brush Holders for Electric Generators, of which the following is a specification.

In the smaller sizes of electric generators, especially of that type in Patent No. 710,597, it has been found desirable to have each brush composed of two or more independent members both for convenience in manufacturing brushes and also for convenience in handling them.

An insulating-bushing 12 is also provided with a pair of axial perforations 13 13 of the same size and arrangement as the perforations 10 and similarly connected by a short channel 14, so that the bushing can be also slipped upon the tubes 7 7 and secured to the plate 8 screws 19. The open'outer ends of the tubes 7 are closed by removable plugs 15, which are held in place by suitable removable means, such as cotter-pins 16. The usual brushes 17 may then be introduced into the tubes 7 and a suitable spring 18 placed between each brush and the plug 15.

I claim as my invention 1. A brush-holder for electric generators. consisting of, an insulating-bushing provided with a pair of adjacent parallel axial perforations and a connecting-slot, and a pair of tubular brush-holders formed by a single piece of metal and inserted in said perforations of the insulating-bushing.

2. A brush-holder for electric generators, consisting of, an insulating-bushing having a pair of parallel axial perforations connected by a slot, a pair of parallel brush-receiving tubes formed of a single piece and inserted in said axial perforations and the slot, and a removable plug for the outer end of each tube.

3. A brush-holder for electric generators, consisting of, a plate having a pair of axial perforations, a pair of brush-receiving tubes passing through said perforations, and means for retaining a brush in each of said tubes.

4. A brush-holder for electric generators, consisting of, an electrical conductor having a pair of adjacent perforations, a pair of tubular brush-holders passing through said perforations and electrically connected to said conductor, an insulating-bushing having a pair of axial perforations adapted to receive the brush-holders, and means for retaining a brush in each of said tubes.
