Description
l/j-ssv UNITED STATES Patented August 16, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK D. LE BLANC, OF LYNN, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD TO ELZEAR M. POIRIER, OF LYNN, MASSACHUSETTS.
PROCESS OF CLEANING BRICKS- SPEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 767,575, dated. August 16, 1904. Application filed June 7, 1904. Serial No. 211,564. (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LFREDERICK D. LE BLANC, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lynn, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Processes of Cleaning Bricks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a process for re moving a saline deposit from the surface of bricks.
It is a well-known fact that oftentimes after a building has been constructed of bricks a white saline deposit efiioresces or exudes from the pores of said bricks and forms a white deposit upon the surface thereof which is very unsightly and the removal of which is the cause of a great deal of trouble and expense, and oftentimes when said deposit has been removed it appears again upon the surface of the bricks in a comparatively short time.
The object of this invention is to provide a process by means of which said salt may be removed from the surface of bricks and which will also act in such a manner as to prevent the return of said deposit.
To these ends I employ two solutions, Nos. 1 and 2, solution No. 1 consisting of the following ingredients, mixed thoroughly together while cold and in the following proportions: one gallon of turpentine, one gallon of kerosene-oil, one pint of sea-water, one quart of alcohol, and two ounces of copperas dissolved in one and one half pints fresh water. Solution No. 2 consists of the following ingredients, mixed together while cold and in the following proportions: one gallon of nitric acid, two ounces of salt, and one and one-half pints fresh water.
In carrying my process into practical operation I first apply solution No. 1 to the surface of the bricks in any suitable manner, preferably with a brush, then allow the same to thoroughly dry, and finally apply the second solution to the surface of the bricks.
The advantages secured by my improved process for cleaning the saline deposit from the surface of bricks are that the different ingredients of the respective solutions are easily combined, inexpensive, and easily obtained, and that they not only remove the saline deposit from the bricks, but prevent the return thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire by Letters Patent to secure, is
Theprocess of removing a saline deposit from the surface of bricks, consisting in dis tributing over the surface of said bricks a compound formed of the following ingredients: turpentine, kerosene-oil, sea-water, alcohol, copperas and fresh water; allowing said compound to thoroughly dry upon the surface of said bricks; and finally applying to said surface asecond compound consisting of nitric acid, salt and fresh water.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
his FREDERICK D. LE BLANC.
