PATENT OFFICE.
WINDOW-WEIGHT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 765,646, dated July 19, 1904.
Application filed September 24, 1903. Serial No. 174,509. (No model.) i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES M. WISHART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pasadena, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Window-Weights, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a cheap window-weight. I accomplish this object by the window-weight described herein and illustrated in the accompanying drawings,
in which Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of my improved window-weight. Fig. 2 is a modification of the same. Fig. 3 is a Sid; elevation of the binding and attaching ro In the drawings, A is a hollow metallic case made, preferably, from sheet-iron.
In Fig. l, B is a cast metallic base having a central hole C therein, through which the binding and attaching rod D is passed. This binding-rod has a head D thereon, which prevents it from slipping through the base. The case is placed on the base and the binding-rod passed up through the center thereof, and the interior of the case is filled with any heavy material that will pass therein, as iron filings E, of which large quantities now go to waste in factories, or pulverized iron ore could be used as a filling therefor. After the case is filled the top F is placed in the case and a loop G is bentin the top of the binding-rod in such manner as to securely retain the cover in place and at the same time provide convenient means for the attachment of the window-cord. In Fig. 2 I provide for the case an ordinary metallic bottom H, attached thereto in any suitable manner, such as is used in fastening the bottom in a can, and I provide awasher I to strengthen the bottom and pass the binding-rod through the washer. For a cover, I provide a cap J, which I secure in place in the same manner as in Fig. 1. Other means may be used for securing the bottom and top in the case, and a bail of wire K may be secured to top, as shown 'in dotted lines in Fig. 2, to provide means to attach the windowcord.
It will be seen from this construction that a very cheap window-weight may be constructed, as the material with which the case is filled can be amaterial that ordinarily goes to waste.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an article of manufacture a window- Witnesses:
