PATENT OEEicE.
BICYCLE OR CYCLE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 764,774, dated July 12, 1904.
Application filed September 4, 1903. Serial No. 171,953. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J GEN FREDEEIoK SAR- GEAN'I, solicitor, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Holly Bank, Bracknell, in the county of Berks, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bicycle or Cycle Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide improved means for supporting and holding bicycles and other cycles in position in railway vans, cycle sheds, and other storage places; and it consists in the improved construction, as hereinafter described and claimed, for the purpose of facilitating the use of such holders and rendering the same applicable for use with any description of cycle.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved holder, and Fig. 2 is a similar view with the clamp adjusted to a different position.
I fix a bracket a to the wall or side or other part of the railway-van or other storage.
This bracket is formed with top and bottom plates a, between which is located the T end Z) of an arm 0. The T end is pivoted in said plates (0 or is formed tubular to receive a pivot-pin fastened in said plates 0'. The arm 0 carries at its end a clamp-arm (Z, which is capable of swiveling or rotating upon the end of said arm 0. The clamp-arm (Z therefore is rotatable about its longitudinal axis, but is otherwise lixed to the arm 0.
The arm (Z is formed with a jaw e and lugs or flanges f, between which a movable jaw g is pivoted at it. The jaw g is formed with a tail end 1: to serve as a handle whereby to manipulate the clamp and is preferably provided with a spring Zr, coiled about its pivot Zr, adapted to normally close the jaws.
The
a segmental plate Z, which is perforated, as
at Z, and passes through a slot formed in the arm (Z, whereby the clamp may be secured by means of a pin or by the hasp of a padlock or other look, so as to prevent the cycle from being stolen. The jaws are provided with a padding or lining of felt, rubber, or other suitable material, as indicated at m. It will thus be seen that the clamp being rotatable upon the arm 0 enables it to be'used' to grip any part of the bicycle or cycle frame.
I claim- The combination in a cycle-holder of a bracket adapted to be secured to a suitable erection; an arm formed with a T end pivoted to said bracket; an arm swiveled upon the pivoted arm upon an axis longitudinal with said arm; a jaw integral with said swiveled arm; a jaw pivoted to said swiveled arm and formed with a tail end; a thumb-screw working through the tail end of said pivoted jaw, a segmental plate secured to the tail end of said pivotal jaw, having holes therein, and a slot in the integral jaw through which the segmental plate passes, whereby said pivoted jaw may be locked in different positions as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN FREDERICK SARGEANT.
