PATENT OEETCE.
BOTTLE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 764,587, dated July 12, 1904.
Application filed March 19, 1904.
To all whmn it 71mg concern.-
Be it known that I, GUs'rAvE A. HENOKEL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of East Orange, in the State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Holders, of which the follow ing is aspecification accompanied by drawings.
This invention relatesto bottle-holders; and the objects of the invention are to secure a holder that will take various sizes of bottles and also bottles of different shapes. This holder is designed to accommodate a quart bottle of wine, whisky, or other beverage or a pint bottle, if desired, and according to the construction of the device the bottle is securely held without liability of breakage.
Further objects of the invention will herein after appear; and to these ends the invention consists of a bottle-holder for carrying out the above objects embodying the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts having the general mode of operation substantially as hereinafter fully described and claimed in this specification and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a vertical sectional view of the bottle-holder in open position embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical elevational view of the bottle-holder closed. Fig. 3 is a top plan View of the base of the bottle.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a base of any suitable material, in this instance it being shown of pressed metal in the form of an ornamental molding having an upright rim portion B and an inwardly-turned portion C. Elastic cushioning means are secured to the base A, in this instance they being shown in the form of a coiled spring D, although other suitable compressible and eX- pansible means may be provided.
A suitable bottle E is shown within the bottle case or casing F and substantially filling said case; but it is to be understood that other forms and sizes of bottles may be utilized with the invention. The case F preferably terminates at substantially the neck of the bot- Serial No. 199,052. (No model.)
tle and for the purposes of appearance and attractiveness may be provided with a filigree design-work Gr of any suitable character, either etched onto the surface of the case or cut out of the material of the case, so that the bottle may be seen through the design. The bottle having been inserted within the case F, said case is placed upon the base A and suitably secured thereon-by suitable means. In this instance bayonet-joints are provided for securing the case to the base. As shown, the base is provided with the slots H, while the case is provided with the lugs I, adapted to said slots. The lugs I having been inserted in the slots, the case is turned to lock the parts together.
The elastic cushion in the form of a spring D serves to hold the bottle firmly within the case, and there is provision for the utilization of the case for different sizes of bottles, as will be readily understood. It will be seen that casings F of difiterent sizes may also be used with the same base.
Obviously some features ofthis invention may he used without others and the invention may be embodied in widely-varying forms.
Therefore, without limiting the invention to the construction shown and described nor enumerating equivalents, I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, the following:
A bottle-holder, comprising a base of pressed metal in the form of an ornamental molding, having an upright rim portion and an inwardly turned portion, elastic cushioning means secured to the base, a casing for holding the bottle and adapted to be placed upon the base, the lower edge of said casing resting upon the base outside of the upright rim portion, and means for locking the casing to said rim portion.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GUSTAVE A. HENCKEL.
