Be it known that I, GEORGE F. DIcKsON, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ice-Cream Molds, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to that class of molds employed in molding' ice-cream bricks with a central portion of ice-cream of a different color or appearance to the main body or outer portion of the ice-cream brick; and the present improvement has for its object to provide a simple and efficient structural formation and combination of the mold parts whereby the different steps in the process of forming such ice-cream bricks can be performed in a rapid, convenient, and economical manner, all as will hereinafter more fully appear, and be more particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, illustrative of the present invention, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional elevation at line .fr a", Fig. 2, of an ice-cream mold embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the Same at line m', Fig. 1. Fig. 8 is a perspective viewof present mold center in a detached condition from the main mold. Figs. 4, 5, and 6 are horizontal sections of the mold center, illustrating different ornamental forms of the same.

Similar numerals of reference indicate like parts in the several views.

Referring to the drawings, l represents the mold-casing of the usual rectangular form and open at both ends.-

2 and 3 are the usual mold-covers fitting the respective ends of the mold-casing l.

4 is the hollow mold-center, of any usual ornamental form in horizontal section and` substantially the same height as the mold-casing 1. In the present invention such holder mold-center is provided with a fixed bottom closure 5 and with a horizontal top portion 6, havinga downturned rim 7, adapted to fit the upper end of the mold-casing l in manner similar to one of the ordinary covers aforesaid to close such mold end and to maintain the mold-center in proper central position within the mold-cavity. In the present construction the chamber or cavity of the moldcentert opens through its horizontal top portion 5, so that ready access may be had to such chamber or cavity.

In the employment of the present mold in the manufacture of ice-cream bricks with colored center the mold will be reversed from the position shown in Fig. 1, so that the bottom end of the mold-casing and the closed bottom 5 of the mold-center will be upward. rIhe cover 3 is then removed and white ice-cream is poured or flushed vinto the mold-cavity until the same is filled in around the moldcenter and the cover 3 put back in place. The mold is then turned upside down into the position shown in Fig. l and packed in ice and salt and left for a period of ten or fifteen minutes.` The mold is then removed from such ice and salt, and any salt water in the chamber of the mold-center is poured out and warm water poured into said chamber with a View to loosen the outer surface of such moldcenter from the frozen cream in the moldcavity, after which the mold-center is removed, leaving a central cavity in the mass of ice-cream in the mold. Such cavity is then filled withred or other contrasting icecream. The cover 2 is placed on the end of the mold and the same again packed in ice and salt and left for ten or fifteen minutes. The ice-cream is then taken from the mold 'and transferred to a paper holder or sliced into individual portions and packed away for use in the usual refrigerator carriers or cans generally used by ice-cream retailers. f

Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In an ice-cream mold of the character herein described, the combination of a moldcasing open at both ends, detachable covers for closing said ends, a removable hollow moldcenter open at top and closed at bottom, and
