SPECIFICATIN forming part of Letters Patent No. 763,432, dated June 28, 1904,

'To {1J/Z whom, it may concern:
Be it `known that we, HEINRICH SCHWARZ- ENEACII and GOT'ILIEB LIER, citizens of the Republic of Switzerland, both residing at Zurich, Switzerland, (whose post-oilice addresses are, respectively, Langnau, near Zurich, and 12 Malzgasse, Zurich, aforesaid,) have invented new and useful Improvements in Dobbies for Looms for Weaving, of which the following is a specification.
` Our invention has for its object the construction of a dobby in which the usual cards are dispensed with and substituted by a cylinder adapted to be displaced axially forward and backward and formed with perforations adapted to receive pegswhich actuate the needles and catches in accordance with the changes required. mechanism illustratedvin the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front view; Fig. 2,'a side view from. the left, and Fig. 3 a partial side view from the right.

`In carrying out our invention we secure upon the shaft 1, which is mounted on the frame side c of the dobby and may be rotated from the loom by means of chain-gearing, a worm-wheel 2 'in gear with another wormwheel, 3, also situated on the frame side c. Upon the boss of the worm-wheel 3 is secured the wheel 4 in gear with the spur-wheel 5, secured upon a shaft 6, passing crosswise through the dobby. This shaft carries at its other end a spur-wheel 7 in gear with the spur-wheel 9, mounted on the frame side CZ and carrying a stud 8 and a disk 11, furnished also with a stud 10, which latter actuates'the star-wheel 12, secured to one end of a shaft 120, mounted A in a bearing on the frame side Z and upon the other end of which is employed the spur-wheel 13 in gear with the spur-wheel 14, Fig. 3, secured to the cylinder 15, mounted in the dobby sides axially displaceable. This cylinder has around its periphery rows of holes adapted to receive the pegs 16, which actuate the needles and catches, Fig. 2, arranged as usual. tending across the dobby. At the driving side of the dobby (Worm-wheels 2 and 3) the shaft 26 has secured a star-wheel 27, placed under the influence of a spring 44 and axially displaceable.' 'In one position this star-wheel is ladapted to be rotated from the shaft 6 by mean-s of the stud 47 on the disk 45, secured on the said shaft and in the other (position in 'Fig 1) prevented from rotating by the disk 46, also secured upon the shaft 6. This star- `wheel has a grooved boss 28, in the groove of which engages aforked lever 30, secured upon the shaft 29, which is parallel with the frame side c. This shaft carries also the lever 31, bearing against a cam 32, secured upon the driving-shaft 1,. secured the lever 33, to which is jointed the rod 34, situated at the back of the dobby and the other end of which forms a catch hooking in the position of the dobby parts shown in the drawings onto the bracket 35, secured to the frame side c.' A spring 50 presses the rod 34 against the outer needle pair 51 at one side of the dobby.
Upon the shaft 6 are secured the cams 36, against which bear the angular levers 37, fulcrumed to the sides of the dobby. 5. In a dobby for looms for weaving with needle-operated catches and pegged cylinder actuating the needles, a shaft mounted in bearings at the side of the dobby, a lever secured thereto at one end, an arm at the other and between the saine a forked lever, a shaft mounted at a right angle thereto, a star-wheel secured at one end and a cam-grooved disk at the other end of the latter, a rod jointed to the first-named lever having a hook-shaped end, a stationary bracket to receive the same and a cam secured upon the driving-shaft, the said rod being adapted to be pushed off the said bracket by one of the said needles andV thus cause the said forked arm to bring the said wheel into position for being rotated and the said cam to be depressed afterward by the said arm and thereby cause the said star-wheel and in the meantime the said rod to be brought into their former position, all combined substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
