DICKRAN J. TERZIAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
MUD-GUARID FOR TROUSERS-LEGS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 763,029, dated June 21, Application filed January 19, 1904. Serial No. 189,676. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, DIGKRAN J. TERZIAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mud-Guards for Trousers Legs, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the The object of this invention is to provideimproved mud-guards for trouser-legs adapted to be secured within the back part of a trouser-leg at the lower end thereof, a further object being to provide devices of the class specified which maybe quickly and easily attached whenever necessary and also detachedwhen not required; and with these and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class specified constructed as hereinafter,
described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective front view of a pair:
of trousers provided with my improvement; Fig. 2, a back or outside view of the mudguard detached; Fig. 3, an inside view thereof; Fig. 4, an outside view of the inner part or strip of the mud-guard, which is made of two parts; Fig. 5, a perspective view of a barbhook whichI employ; Fig. 6, atransverse section of the mud-guard on the line 6 6 of Fig.
3; and Fig. 7, a view similar to Fig. 6, but
from which the back portion 6 is made is shown in Fig. 4 and comprises an oblong body portion having end flaps b and a bottom side The blank flap 6". I also employ fastening devices, one of which is shown in perspective in Fig. 5, and these fastening devices are composed of a piece of Wire bent into U shape, the cross part 0 which connects the parallel sides 0 being bent to form a loop 0 and the parallel sides 0 being formed into pointed pins or barbs. In practice three of these devices are employed, and the pins or barbs o are passed through the inner part b of the mud-guard, so that the loops 0 of the separate fastening devices will he between the separate parts of the mud-guard and the pins or barbs c on the inner side thereof With the points preferably all directed toward the center of the device. In practice the outer or back side of the memher 6 is preferably covered or partially covered with gum-cement orsimilar material, and the flaps b and b are folded over the loopshaped portion 0 of the fastening devices. The outer or back member 6 is then placed in position, and the device as thus formed is pressed or ironed, and the adhesive character of the gum-cement or similar material will securely hold the separate parts of the mudguard together. If desired, however, the flaps b and'b may be folded over the loop-shaped members 0 of the fastening devices and may be stitched or sewed in place, and the back or outer part b of the mud-guard may-also be stitched or sewed to the inner part 6 In Fig. 7 I have shown a modificationin which the parts and b are formed integrally and folded together, the fold being at the top of the mud-guard, as shown at d, and with this construction the parts 72 and b may be connected in either of the ways above specified.
These devices may be secured in position by the owner of the trousers or by any one else whenever desired, all that is necessary being to manipulate the same so as to cause the pins .or barbs 0 to .pass into or through the hem at the bottom of the trouser-legs, and when this is properly done the mud-guard will remain securely in position until intentionally detached, and the last operation may be performed Whenever necessary.
Having fully described my invention, what u 1. A mud-guard for trouser-legs composed of two parts of flexible materialsecured together, and provided with fastening devices composed of parallel pins or barbs connected by a transverse portion formed into a loop parallel with said pins or barbs, the pins or barbs being passed through one part of the o mud-guard and the loop-shaped portion being secured between the separate parts thereof, substantially as shown and described.-
2. A mud-guard for trouser-legs composed of two parts of flexible material, and provided with fastening devices comprising pins or barbs which are passed through one of said parts and which are secured between the sepa rate parts of the mud-guard, substantially as I shown and described.
3. A mud-guard for trouser-legs composed DICKRAN J. TERZIAN.
