SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 763,017, dated June 21, 1904.

Be it known that I, HENRY T. PATTERSON,

a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Blotter- Holder, of which the following is a specification.

This invention' relates to devices designedV to support a blotting-pad upon the wrist and hand in convenient position for use, and has for its' object to simplify and improve devices of this character and produce a holding means whereby the blotter material may be detachably connected to a foundation member in convenient position for renewal and the foundation member attached to the wrist and thumb of the writing hand; and the invention con-` by like designating characters, Figure 1 is aV perspective view of-a hand and wrist with the improved device applied.

The improved device consists of a foundation member l0 of any convenient size and preferably of flexible material, such as celluloid or similar material, which possessesthe requisite elastic properties, together with lightness, strength, cleanliness, and pleasing appearance. The foundation member is provided with means, such as clips 11, whereby one or more layers of blotting-paper or like material 12 may be detachably connectedto the under surface thereof, as shown. By this means the blotting material is readily renewable when i required and without` destroying the foundation member.

Attached centrally to one of the edges of the foundation member, upon its upper surface, is a strap 13, having a fastening means, such as a buckle 14,' for attachment around the wrist of the writing hand, as shown in Fig. l. Attached to the edge opposite to the wriststrap, near one side of the member 10 and upon its upper surface, is a loop 15, adapted to engage the thumb of the Writing hand, as shown in Fig. 1. This simple device will be found very useful and convenient for bookkeepers, cashiers, bank clerks, and others who are required to use a blotter frequently, as the blotter can be used very quickly andwithout the necessityfor causing the hand to move over a desk to reach a blotter and then travel over the same ground to return it to its place; but the blotting can be accomplished by a short forward movement and without loss of time or the annoyance of hunting for the mislaid blotter-sheet. The presence of the blotter-holder upon the wrist and hand is also an advantage in affording a rest for the hand and as a protection to -the'paperbeing written on from the perspiration of the hand.

Y The device can be very cheaply constructed and will be found very useful and convenient for the purpose described.

The straps may be secured to thefoundation member in any desired manner-by rivets, clips, sewing, or the like-and may be of any suitable size and material.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is- 1. A blotter-holder comprising a foundation member having means for detachably engaging a blotter, a wrist member connected with the rear upper side of said foundation mem ber IOO apart and secured to said foundation member' longitudinally thereof to form a loop opening transversely of said foundation member.

A blotter-holder comprising a foundation member of a Width sufficient When in use to span that portion of the hand at the base of the palm and having means for detachably engaging a blotter, a Wrist-engaging strap secured to the rear edge of the foundation member at the center thereof, and a thumbloop secured near the front edge thereof at a point to the left of the point of attachment of the wrist-strap said loop opening transversely of the blotter.
