Be it known that I, S. D. McPHEuSON, of Normal, in the county of McLean, ahd in the State of Illinois,
have invented certain new/and useful Improvements in Compound for Making Pictures Transparent; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the mode of compounding and using the same. I
To prepare a smallquantity of this compound, I use, first, b'alsam* fir, two ounces; second, Demar varnish,
one ounce; third, alcohol, half an ounce; fourth, turpentine, one ounce.
These ingredients, in the above proportions, are placed in a. bottle, and well shaken. After they have become thoroughly united,.which will be the case in a. few moments, the compound is applied to the pictur with an ordinary varnish-brush.
The pictureis placed with its face downward and upon glass, or some equivalent substance. The compound is then put on the back of the picture, and renders it so transparent that the back can be readily painted inoil colors, thus giving the appearanc, of an oil-colored painting to the face.
