Be it known that I, SAMUEL KIME, of McVeytown, in the county of Miihin, and State of Pennsylvania, have'invented new and 4useful Improvements in Shaft-Bearihgs or Millstone-Bushes; and'I'do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part ot'zthis speciication, in which-4 u Figure l is a vertical section of my improved bearing.

This invention is designed more particularly for millstone spindles or shafts, but is equally applicable as friction-roller bearings for other shafting. 1
In the accompanying plate of drawings7 A is tne box containing the friction-rollers B and arms D on which the' rollers are' borne. Studs a are tapped ntothe arms D, and on these studs the friction-rollers B work, as shown.V The arms D are cast or otherwise formed with thimbles d, the holes of whichare produced down through the arms, in the manner shown,'for the purpose of receiving the studs e which are. tapped into the bottom plate ofthe box A, as shown. Thus the studs'e and thimhles d form a species of hinge on which the arms D work, and by means of this hinge the roller of veach arm is brought in the desired position when the spindle or shaft E is being adjusted to the vertical. A set-screw, g, screws into the arm D, as shown, so that its head shall abut against the-wall of the box A, and by this set-screw they-rollers are adjusted up to the spindle or shaft I when occasion shall require. Extending from the bottom of the box',-and exterior to it, is a stuftingbox, H, in which a follower, G, -works in the usual manner, to compress the packing around the spindle. The follower G is'screwed up by means of nuts and screw-threads on the studs 71 which latter are tappedV into the bottom of thebox A, as shown. This stuffing-box is for the purpose of preventing the escape of the oil or other lubricant, ahd which is particularly desirable when this invention is used as a hush for a millstone spindle.
vIn practice, four rollers and arms are suiiicient, and are, with thebox, made of cast metal, as composition, brass, or cast iron; but the rollers maybe ot' wood, cast iron, composition, or Babbit metal. ,In some situations lignumvitre rollers would answer with satisfactory result. l

I claim as 'nemend desire to lsecure by Letters Patent- Vl. The arms D, hung at one end to studs e, and bearing at their opposite extremities the friction-rollers B, whensaid arms are provided with adjusting-screws gpassing transversely through them, and adapted vto rest against theinuer face of the side ofthe box A, all coustructev arranged, and operating as and for the purpose specified. v Y 'i 2. The smiling-box H and follower G, substantially as shown and described, in combination' with the box A containing the rollers B and hinged arms D, all substantially as shown and describcd,.and for the purpose o'f being used as a millstonc-bush, all as set forth.
